Error: Notice - You need to install identd to use this server reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Benben377 · 2021-01-26 22:48 So I finally managed to set up an IRC server on my Raspberry Pi 3B+ and it worked great. Then I tried to connect to it using an Android client and it kept saying the error you see in the title. I thought I could fix it by just disabling identd with a command. So I opened up the IRC chat on my laptop and typed "/identd off", but it was still not working. So I thought maybe I just need to reboot the raspberry pi. But after rebooting now I get the error on both android and windows... Is there anything I can do to get rid of this error? I read something about port forwarding the 130 port, but I don't have a router, the IRC is local only ---------------------------------------------------------------------- renegadereplicant · 2021-01-26 23:36 Check your ircd config. You are requiring the clients to have an indentd. Edit to clarify: there’s no such ircd « indentd off » command. You disabled your windows client identd. Identd is a _client_ side thing, not an ircd related daemon ---------------------------------------------------------------------- IBNash · 2021-01-27 01:39 You have not provided the actual details to enable someone here to actually provide actionable assistance. So first: sudo nano /etc/ircd-hybrid/ircd.conf Then find the **auth** block. I found this in the documentation file reference.conf here: https://github.com/ircd-hybrid/ircd- hybrid/blob/master/doc/reference.conf > need_ident - require the user to have identd to connect | ('+' prefix on /stats I) Make sure there is no need_ident directive in there (comment it out or delete it if there is. You can comment it out by just adding a # at the beginning of the line it is on.) You will then need to restart the irc server like so: sudo /etc/init.d/ircd-hybrid restart ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Benben377 · 2021-01-27 18:35 That's exactly what I needed. Thank you very much ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2021-07-13 17:16 [deleted]
