I'm having a lot of trouble with HexChat and I need help reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -PonderBot- · 2021-01-08 04:07 A. For starters, I keep getting failed transfers. I initially thought it was because I had too many files transferring at once (max 3 allowed and had 3 running) so I lowered it to one at a time but that failed too ("connection reset by peer"). B. Also, I tried queuing up a bunch of stuff just to have it slowly download stuff in the background throughout the day so I wouldn't have to check up on it but a few problems popped up 1. When I started getting errors, I tried to abort everything in the queue but I couldn't find a way to clear the whole thing and had to abort them a few at a time. I tried messaging the bot to cancel the transfer and that kind of sped the process up but it still felt really inefficient and potentially time-consuming. Is there a way to completely clear a transfer queue without having to do it manually by aborting them in the transfer window? 2. Is there a way to retry a download automatically after it has failed? I hate coming back to a transfer that failed partway through and would like to automate it as much as possible. 3. How do I stop from getting timed out? Hypothetically, if I wanted to grab an entire season of a show and I queued everything up, it looks like I keep getting messages not too long after that all of the transfers at the tail end of the list would fail because I got timed out before I accepted the transfer. C. That last one leads me to what is hopefully the last major problem I'm trying to solve and that is, I just want to be able to accept everything but set it to one download at a time so as not to overload anything or to cause trouble for the hosts. My issue is I can't find a setting that will let me cap the number of downloads, only the highest bitrate allowed for one download. Again, I just want to automate as much as possible but in this case it just looks like I have to sit there and fix a bunch of stuff even if I want to grab one file so I feel like I'm just screwing a bunch of stuff up constantly. Please help me figure out how to do all of this properly. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -PonderBot- · 2021-01-08 06:03 I figured out something that might work for B1: [https://wiki.xertion.org/w/XDCC\_Commands](https://wiki.xertion.org/w /XDCC_Commands) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nubatpython · 2021-01-08 09:10 I haven't used HexChat's file transfer function before so I can't really help, but HexChat does have a plugin system which you should look into if you want to automate things, and if that isn't enough, HexChat is open source so you could make your own modifications to the client. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -PonderBot- · 2021-01-08 19:32 I'll try that out, thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kloudykat · 2021-01-08 22:26 do HTTP downloads have any issues? are you on wireless or do you have an ethernet connection? do you have another PC to try Hexchat xfer on to see if it is your PC or your network? If no, could you borrow a laptop or something? Sounds dumb but when is the last time you rebooted your modem/router/switch along with your computer? I'm a network engineer. Send me a message if you need some help. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -PonderBot- · 2021-01-09 10:33 >do HTTP downloads have any issues? I'm not sure. >are you on wireless or do you have an ethernet connection? Ethernet >do you have another PC to try Hexchat xfer on to see if it is your PC or your network? If no, could you borrow a laptop or something? I'll try out my other computer. What would it mean if it doesn't fail on the second computer but it does on the first? >Sounds dumb but when is the last time you rebooted your modem/router/switch along with your computer? It's been a while for the modem but I have to occasionally do it for the router because our internet just doesn't work sometimes for whatever reason. I think the modem is surfboard and we have a linksys router. As far as my computer goes, I restart it decently often mainly because W10 always has updates of some kind. >I'm a network engineer. PC, modem & router. 1: try and download some random mp3 file from [mediafire](http://www.m ediafire.com/file/1z5s99yycd6cm9g/Outwork_Feat._Mr._Gee_- _Elektro_%2528_Rafael_Lelis_Elektro_Tribe_Mix_%2529.mp3/file) Did the short HTTP DL work? 2: Next, a bigger HTTP DL [Kubuntu](https://kubuntu.org/getkubuntu/) Did it work or cut off mid-download, like your Hexchat DL's have been doing? 3: if it works on the other PC then fails on yours, then that means there is an issue with yours and we have to find out of it is software or hardware. Lets see what happens on the other computer before we move on. Also, you should be able find the Hexchat portable exe and run it off of a USB drive if you don't want to install it on the 2nd PC. I goggled Hexchat portable and found a few. Make sure they are legit, I didn't check that. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Maels34 · 2021-05-27 20:12 Hello, i want to know C too, I strugle to dl one by one
