Is it normal for mIRC to be so slow? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- acsmith1972 · 2020-12-31 10:42 I don't remember it being this slow years ago. Like it just freezes, crashes, almost crashes, won't cooperate most of the time. I use it with XDCC. I'm not sure if the klipper window constantly loading things is the issue or because I'm connected to 4 networks at the same time. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- schwiftshop · 2020-12-31 10:54 it was always a trash fire of a program, its gotta be you, amigo. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- brungfunchy · 2020-12-31 11:11 It's probably because of the xdcc channel bots listing all around the same time. I'm an Op in elitewarez, used to hang out in the main bot channel but with 800 bots listing all at once it would freeze my program up. Maybe it's not that though. I still use mIRC 6.34(with nonamescript) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- syfydesigns · 2020-12-31 14:10 If logging is turned on, it can be effected greatly by a failing storage device. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- uhp787 · 2020-12-31 17:02 i use it on 3 nets and up to ~ 20 chans total. never an issue with mirc. i don't use anything with it besides znc though. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- uhp787 · 2020-12-31 17:03 if it ain't broke dont fix it. i love my old versions too. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- uhp787 · 2020-12-31 17:03 not helpful at all. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- schwiftshop · 2020-12-31 18:17 that's mIRC for ya. Go slap yourself around a bit with a large trout ---------------------------------------------------------------------- uhp787 · 2020-12-31 23:50 there is a script for that. you are putting me in the position of defending someone i did not mena to...and i resent the hell out of you for that. go chill...with a nice adult beverage and stop being so twaatty, love . ;) seriously why people wanna make others feel some kinda way -- your ilk are the worst of us. just know -- it really IS NOT COOL to be a twaaat <3 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Kaelidoz · 2021-01-01 01:47 So much drama and drugs happened in that channel over years. It really is an interesting place. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- acsmith1972 · 2021-01-01 02:35 None of my drives are failing. They're all reporting back 100% or close to is from HD Sentinel. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- acsmith1972 · 2021-01-01 02:39 I was looking for episodes of a show and found 1, 2, 4, and 8 on EZTV, checked TPB and Rarbg, but the other ones weren't there. Checked [xdcc.eu](https://xdcc.eu) and they were all there. I used to only use mIRC to get everything. My friends all loved me because they just didn't get it. I mean it's not a particularly hard program to use, but I can see how it'd be tedious to people used to things like Napster at the time, or utorrent now. But I could swear it used to work a lot quicker back then. Just checked. I have 7.52. Maybe I should go back to the old one. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- brungfunchy · 2021-01-01 03:28 I haven't been on in a while. I just have been idling for quite a while, and I'll hop on every few months and say what's up. But it's legit been like 3 years since I've sat down and chatted. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- brungfunchy · 2021-01-01 07:41 I first started pirating on IRC in 6th grade ('06) and from like 06-08 IRC xdcc scene was REALLY booming. Like tons of xdcc channels that were 3000 users plus 500 bots. Not including the foreign channels with 500 bots ran from the same dedicated server. Ive helped numerous xdcc channels over the years, I "rooted" bots for tons of channels and I can't even remember them all lol. Me and a good friend ran our own channel that got pretty big when irc was already starting to die so we felt pretty accomplished. I think at the time the biggest channels were 1500-2000 and our record was something around 850. But in the end I ended up helping elitewarez for a little bit then life got in the way so now I just idle there with my @ status lol, plus it seems like they're all good on help. I strictly used irc for downloading for about 6 years. Also if you're using an xdcc search engine, no need to run the klipper script since you already know what pack you're gonna DL, plus basically every xdcc channel has a search bot in it's chat so you could just hop in and !search ... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- brungfunchy · 2021-01-01 09:13 /me slaps schwiftshop around a bit with a large trout ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jessegreathouse · 2021-01-04 18:29 Im experiencing the same thing with XDCC Klipper. If I turn Klipper off I have no problem. It starts out working great and over time the performance of mIRC starts to degrade to the point of being unuseable. I will have to kill it and start over. I assume it has something to do with the growing list of available packets being too large, However I don't understand how this could be. My system specs are pretty beefy. I have a Ryzen 9 3900X CPU with 12 cores and 24 threads. 32 GB of DDR4 RAM @ 3600 mhz. mIRC doesn't use all that much RAM and my system hovers at about 30% reserved RAM usage. I notice that mIRC seems to be mainly focused on a single CPU core, but even that one core isn't particularly pegged. It's usually operating at between 60% and 90% capacity. I know the problem isn't with my storage devices because I use an extremely fast nvme m.2 PCIe 4 SSD. I've tested it multiple times and it's fine. The computer only has two of these storage devices and they're both the exact same and both have 2 TB capacity. The system drive is at 30% and the media drive is at 60% capacity. It's quite a puzzle because the amount of resources available in my system should be plenty for even a very hungry script. I can only conclude that there is something very inefficient in the Klipper script and perhaps I never noticed it 10 years ago because it wasn't generating lists as large as it does today. It doesn't affect anything other than mIRC, everything else on my system is running fine. When mIRC is unresponsive I can play Black Ops Cold war without any issue at all. If you ever figure out a solution then please post it here, and I will do the same. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- acsmith1972 · 2021-01-07 20:20 I have zero knowledge of how to set up a channel. lol. That was never my thing. I was using it to download. Years ago, before mIRC was even a thing there was IRC, which I used a lot. That was fun. That was how we all chatted back in the day. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- brungfunchy · 2021-01-07 20:38 Well yes mIRC is just an Internet Relay Chat client. miRC just made it a little easier for folks to use it lol. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- acsmith1972 · 2021-01-10 20:17 I've tried chatting a few times in various channels over the years and no one ever replies. lol ---------------------------------------------------------------------- acsmith1972 · 2021-01-10 20:18 I remember when it first came out. lol. Back when BBS was still popular. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- brungfunchy · 2021-01-10 21:13 Just gotta find a populated enough network. All the big networks always have people. Rizon, EFnet, DalNet, Freenode
