I want to join IRC and i'm lost, don't know where to start reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Zickod23 · 2020-12-17 13:41 Hi guys, I have googled how to join an irc for 1 hour and i still don't know where to start. i have installed hexchat on my windows 10 laptop. I love programming and talking about tech. Is there anyone who can help me. update: I finally joined a channel thanks u/anarchyisthekey for sugesting channels and project ---------------------------------------------------------------------- brungfunchy · 2020-12-17 13:52 You need to find a server you want to connect to. /server "server address" should connect you ---------------------------------------------------------------------- anarchyisthekey · 2020-12-17 14:06 There are lots of channels on freenode. Connect to chat.freenode.net Join: ##python, #haskell or any other subs you like. I am particularly fond of the haskell channel, it’s always alive. Once you get the hang of it try different servers/channels. There are also slack and discord channels on programming/tech. If you want company you can try those too. If you like programming, here’s a fun project. Open a telnet client and connect to irc by giving raw comments. It’s very fun. Then create a tcp socket to freenode in your favorite programming language and enjoy the simplicity of pure text open protocols. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Zickod23 · 2020-12-17 14:27 Thanks. I know there are slack/discord for programming but i wanted to try irc thanks for the project. i will try when i will start to use irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Zickod23 · 2020-12-17 14:27 will try ---------------------------------------------------------------------- IBNash · 2020-12-17 15:58 Here's some tips: Lookup IRC networks (groups of servers) on [https://netsplit.de](https://netsplit.de/) Join multiple networks, and then the channels of your choice #C/#Python/whatever To list all the channels in a particular network, in the main connection window, type `/list` If programming is your thing (and that's what's mostly on IRC nowadays), I suggest using [weechat](https://weechat.org/) and learning how to configure it to your liking. It's [incredibly configurable](https://gist.github.com/pascalpoitras/8406501) and you can learn a ton from looking its massive plugin list. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- benjy500c · 2020-12-17 21:16 You Can join irc.evilcorp.ga, it's a good community, we are most of the time in the lobby. And we came from everywhere. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Morphie-peer · 2020-12-18 01:08 www.morphie.co ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2020-12-18 08:51 IRC clients such as mIRC (for Windows) have an extensive list of IRC networks and their associated servers pre-populated in the options & settings box, making it easy to connect & explore different networks... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2021-03-22 11:09 [removed] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2021-04-15 05:32 [removed]
