beginner setup???

Hi, I'm just a fan of a particular webcomic... (Homestuck) and there
is a chat service in said webcomic that is called Pesterchum. There
was a chat service that closed down based on it, that was open source,
so I have access to the source code. the only issue I'm having now, is
that I have no clue what I'm getting into in accordance with irc
servers. all i know is that the old Pesterchum server was an irc. I
only found out what an irc is today, so I'm a complete newcomer. The
old irc sever host has said that all I need to do is replace his irc
link with one of my own, but again, I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT I'M DOING!!! I
would appreciate any help y'all can give me

What are you trying to do though... That's the question



From my 2 seconds of searching i gather: Pesterchum is a client and it
was used to connect to a now defunct IRC server and the old host told
you that you can use the client to connect to another IRC server...?

well do 1) want to specifically use this client? 2) do you have a
server in mind that you would like to connect to?
