IRC client invite links support? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- VariousWeekend2587 · 2020-11-22 16:28 most modern messengers have got used to the fact that you can invite someone to the channel by clicking on the link. IRC is no worse, and has had it for centuries and... why doesn't any client offer this? Or maybe only i am retarted? I always did it by hand because I couldn't do it otherwise. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SadieKatze · 2020-11-22 16:43 ircs://irc.yourserver.com/%23channelname ---------------------------------------------------------------------- VariousWeekend2587 · 2020-11-22 16:46 \> I always did it by hand because I couldn't do it otherwise. i mean are there clients that do it automatically, for example, say when I'm already on the channel? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- htepO · 2020-11-22 19:26 The ```irc:``` URL scheme exists. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- VariousWeekend2587 · 2020-11-22 19:54 nevermind, ChatZilla support this, simply by displaying it on the screen. But no other client offers this ---------------------------------------------------------------------- trua · 2020-11-23 08:29 Well why don't you write a script for Irssi or something that constructs one of those URLs and maybe even puts it in your clipboard. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- sloppy-svetlana · 2020-11-28 11:31 Others have pointed out the existence of the `irc://` scheme. I'd like to add that the closest thing to an 'invite link' you could get when the user doesn't have IRC installed / configured is with Kiwi widgets. https://kiwiirc.com/embedding
