I used to be a huge IRC user back in the 90's and in the early '00s. I've tried getting back into it a couple of times, most recently yesterday. Seems like no matter which server I join, or what room I enter, no one is active. Plenty of users, but silence. So just curious what servers and rooms you use? Also, any good paranormal / ghost rooms? The Polyamory and Gen discussion rooms are active, as are any tech-specific rooms. Did you do a /list? There are very few channels that are active 24/7, but they’re out there. The more idle ones can get active maybe once a day or a few times a week, depending on the channel. This network is more of an old school IRC network where people still chat randomly. The reasons are these: 1. Its not a site conducive to genuine discussion. Upvotes and downvotes make sure of that. There are multiple other posts on this very site detailing exactly why its an awful system. 2. Almost everyone here, even in the decent subreddits like r/hinduism are sociopaths that feed on negative energy. Read the story of Sunil Tripathi. He was a young, suicidal man who was falsely accused of being a terrorist by reddit. Redditors put his family through days and weeks of HELL just to get their rocks off and exact a sense of justice on the family of a terrorist. Guess what? He wasn't a terrorist, and he had committed suicide days before the attack. If you were trying to follow a thread I participated in, I apologize but I don't feel as though reddit deserves to benefit from any of my mental labor.
