build or sign up or create my own irc chat web based? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GeneralPringle · 2020-10-16 04:49 i know nothing about coding. i just want my own irc web based chat like this site [https://www.destiny.gg/embed/chat](https://www.destiny.gg/embed/chat) that has individual accounts and moderation to ban and timeout people with moderation logs and chat logs and custom emotes that are static and animated. i am a twitch streamer and want my own irc web based chat. is it possible for me to farily simply and easily set this up through a download or do i need to write code? i am happy to get in the mud and learn some stuff as long as its not too tricky obviously and someone can give me a guide or help me. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Equinoxdawg · 2020-10-16 06:39 While similar indeed, it seems that website's chat isn't bound to anything related to IRC at all. Either way, since [it's open source](https://github.com/destinygg), you could if you so wanted, run their stack yourself ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GeneralPringle · 2020-10-16 06:40 how do i do that? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GeneralPringle · 2020-10-16 06:41 i dont understand how i use that github stuff ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Equinoxdawg · 2020-10-16 06:53 It'd definitely be a lot more involved than say creating your own Discord server and using that, but if you're willing to go down the rabbit hole: Looking at that GitHub organisation and those repos: it's made up of the frontend code, i.e the website itself where you go in the browser and thus the chat interface, and the backend -- where all the heavy lifting is done. You'd want to do all this on a server (VPS), not your home computer, but you can presumably test it there to see if it works first. You need to follow the instructions [here](https://github.com/destinygg/website#requirements) / [here](https://github.com/destinygg/chat-gui) (frontend) and [here](https://github.com/destinygg/chat#how-to-build--run) (backend). Two out of three of those repositories include "This is a work in progress!", so you may very well run into undocumented issues. I can't really help much more beyond that. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GeneralPringle · 2020-10-16 07:32 when it says create the configuration files where or how does it mean? and i am assuming i have to download the stuff in the 'building' section? do i need to download the 'running' stuff too? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- peekosthename · 2020-10-16 17:38 Kiwi irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- peekosthename · 2020-10-16 17:39 Here https://kiwiirc.com/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- peekosthename · 2020-10-16 17:40 If you have a dedicated server I can help ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GeneralPringle · 2020-10-16 22:45 I can easily get one.
