Permanently registering a handle with Nickserv? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SatiricalGaming · 2020-10-06 01:00 Is there a way to permanently register a username with Nickserv? I know that in most cases, you would register it and have to identify on it every so often, but is there an option for admins to permanently register specific usernames? Usernames that clients can access and use, but not be able to register it themselves/kick people off them/etc. Like only a mod/admin with access to the password would be able to moderate it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LameBMX · 2020-10-06 01:29 Nickserve is perm. /nickserve help... see if something like kill protecion is available. Misread, no other users will need to register themselves. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Equinoxdawg · 2020-10-06 01:43 > Is there a way to permanently register a username with Nickserv? Registering a nick with nickserv is permanent by itself. If there's some set expiration or automatic dropping of accounts after a period of time that's set by the network. If you're talking about a specific case, you'd need to provide more details. > is there an option for admins to permanently register specific usernames In Atheme, there's the [HOLD nickserv flag](https://github.com/atheme/atheme/wiki/NickServ%3AHOLD). This is what networks like freenode etc use for accounts with historical significance or qualifies for special treatment that they don't want expiring, even though they have an expiration system in place. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SatiricalGaming · 2020-10-06 02:08 How would you set an expiration/automatic dropping of accounts after a period of time? And does the HOLD nickserv flag work for every IRC server? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Mikapichu · 2020-10-06 07:50 If you are service operator you can use SASET NOEXPIRE nick ON to make sure the nick never expires. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nubatpython · 2020-10-06 08:46 I'm pretty sure you set the expiration time in the services config file ---------------------------------------------------------------------- KindOne · 2020-10-06 15:22 >SASET NOEXPIRE nick ON That really depends on which IRC services you are using. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Practical_Quail911 · 2023-04-01 07:44 sounds good. I don't want just anybody to be able to kick me off
