Tutorials for making your own IRC server? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SatiricalGaming · 2020-10-01 19:57 A program that I used since 2012 is shutting down, and it runs off of IRC. The creator said it can be saved if someone else wants to make a new IRC server(and change the server IP in the program itself), and I really do want to do that, but I don't know the first thing about programming or making an IRC server. Are there any good beginning tutorials I can use to get started? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- titioitit · 2020-10-01 20:18 [https://www.electropepper.org/blog/item/irc-server-ssl-services-how- to-build-your-own](https://www.electropepper.org/blog/item/irc-server- ssl-services-how-to-build-your-own) Make sure to replace "electropepper" and such with your analogous information, the tutorial doesn't mention it in every instance. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DevelopedLogic · 2020-10-02 13:54 Hey there! I went on a similar IRC server adventure myself and found Oragono to be really simple to set up whilst being really capable! They have a channel on Freenode if you want to chat about it and they're open source on GitHub https://github.com/oragono/oragono ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SadieKatze · 2020-10-03 09:19 This is incredibly outdated. Those versions of Anope and ircd-hybrid haven't been supported in years and probably contain security vulnerabilities. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- titioitit · 2020-10-03 15:44 The versions are the only thing that need to be updated for 2020. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SadieKatze · 2020-10-03 20:39 Those instructions definitely won't work on Anope 2.0 given that it has an entirely different build system and config layout. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- titioitit · 2020-10-03 20:51 Not really, they're simplified if anything. The steps that are no longer relevant are just skipped, like uncommenting and differing "send/accept" passwords. Beside that, the config file uses the same terminology. [https://wiki.anope.org/index.php/2.0/Configuration](https://wiki.anop e.org/index.php/2.0/Configuration) Though you're right, it will be important to know that. I can see someone getting stuck because they can't find the flags. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 0xatmos · 2020-10-07 16:24 IRC is great and I love oragono . [https://tcp.direct](https://tcp.direct) community run from it and we are impatient for the leafing support considering we do offer free hosting to hackers projects like VxUnderground and few others .It would also be great if some kind of room encryption were available and I'm not talking about client based encryption which is E2E but a kind of global / room based one which would add a layer to the poor ssl which is trying to hold everything alone. I want to run a server on my VPS and oragono seems great. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2021-03-22 11:10 [removed]
