Self-hosting Kiwi IRC vs The Lounge reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- majell1n · 2020-09-26 04:10 Anyone have any opinions on self-hosting Kiwi IRC vs The Lounge? Does one tend to setup/run better than the other? They look nearly identical in design at this point. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- htepO · 2020-09-26 07:23 I haven't used Kiwi IRC, but the couple of times I have installed and set up The Lounge, it was a very straightforward process, both on Linux and Windows. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- prawnsalad · 2020-09-26 14:13 Kiwi dev here. It really depends on what you want. TheLounge is a bouncer with separate user accounts and server-side part, Kiwi IRC is primarily the client side to your network which you just upload the web files to your existing web server which means no server-side to configure. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- majell1n · 2020-09-26 23:34 Ah I see... so with Kiwi I am only connected to the IRC server as long as I am connected to the client? It wouldn't/couldn't stay connected like a bouncer would a la ZNC? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- majell1n · 2020-09-26 23:34 Thank you! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lmns_ · 2020-10-03 10:05 The Lounge is fantastic if you want an all-in-one client (bouncer etc.). You probably want to run it on some kind of VPS with a reverse proxy in front of it for TLS and certificates. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- cavecanemuk · 2021-02-14 11:59 u/prawnsalad is there a guide on how to simply upload the files and get kiwi connected via websockets?. Fro what I see the guide assumes one wants to install the kiwi server... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- prawnsalad · 2021-02-14 12:31 in the startupOptions section of the kiwi config, add "websocket":"/path/to/websocket" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- cavecanemuk · 2021-02-14 12:51 Thanks for the quick reply. Do you think this is as stable (tested) as the webircgateway option? or you're looking for people to test it and come back to you. Second thing: This becomes just of matter of downloading a JS bundle and uploading it on any server? like the old days of Java clients? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- prawnsalad · 2021-02-14 13:18 Websockets are stable, yes. And also yes. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2021-12-13 02:51 [deleted]
