Can't get Atheme Services to connect to InspIRCd reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- antiquis_ · 2020-09-20 18:11 Hi, I am in the process of trying to setup an IRC sever using InspIRCd and Atheme. I've got inspircd working just fine, however I can't get Atheme to connect. The connection to the uplink seems to be established, but then times out. Disclaimer, I am new to both IRC server admin and both Inspircd and Atheme, so forgive me if I make any stupid mistakes. I also configured the server using a guide written for Ubuntu 16.04, and I'm running 20.04. Here's the atheme log: [https://termbin.com/4k4d](https://termbin.com/4k4d) And the Inspircd config: [https://termbin.com/mii2](https://termbin.com/mii2) Here's the atheme conf: [https://termbin.com/l3ey](https://termbin.com/l3ey) And finally the inspircd startup log: [https://termbin.com/4u52](https://termbin.com/4u52) I'm running InspIRCd-3.4.0. Anybody got any ideas what the problem might be here? Thanks in advance! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- coldf2 · 2020-09-20 19:58 What error are you getting? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- antiquis_ · 2020-09-20 20:01 I’m not getting any, that’s the thing. It’s just not loading on the server (I.e. NickServ not showing on startup, and /msg NickServ help does nothing. The only ‘error’ of any sorts is in the Atheme log - it appears to establish a connection to the uplink, but then times out. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2020-09-20 20:02 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- coldf2 · 2020-09-20 20:02 Give me a bit and I'll look through it ---------------------------------------------------------------------- antiquis_ · 2020-09-20 20:02 Thanks so much! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- coldf2 · 2020-09-20 20:31 Is there a log in the services anywhere? Anope has one and you can see when there's something broken there too ---------------------------------------------------------------------- antiquis_ · 2020-09-20 20:46 I’m assuming these should just be in /var/log? If so, there aren’t any other logs relating to IRC... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- coldf2 · 2020-09-20 20:47 Its timing out because it can't connect to the ircd it sounds like. You should have a link, text, in the ircd and services with matching passwords. At least for anope its like that. I'm assuming its the same ---------------------------------------------------------------------- antiquis_ · 2020-09-20 20:53 I don’t have anope setup at all. Is this something that needs to be setup? Currently I have setup Inspircd which is working fine, and I have installed and setup atheme, but this isn’t working. Sorry to be a pain, but I don’t know quite what you need from me to help... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- coldf2 · 2020-09-20 20:55 Atheme should have a log file that shows why it isn't connecting. Or why its timing out. I'll look at your configurations in a few. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- antiquis_ · 2020-09-20 20:56 Thanks again. The only log file that atheme has generated is the one linked in my OP. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2020-09-20 21:48 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- antiquis_ · 2020-09-20 21:56 Update: u/coldf2 \- I'm so sorry for wasting your time. I had a typo in my atheme.conf! I set the IP as [172.0.0.1](https://172.0.0.1) instead of [127.0.0.1](https://127.0.0.1) \- rookie mistake. My bad! Thanks so much for your help regardless! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2020-09-20 21:57 [removed] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- coldf2 · 2020-09-20 21:58 You're welcome! I hadn't it made it that far yet. What network you running? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- antiquis_ · 2020-09-20 22:12 Haha no worries! It's an easy one to miss anyway! Atm it's just a network that I'll be using to offer support to my clients, but planning to invite friends and colleagues to use it too :-)
