Is there any irc client that supports ipv6 ? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NoLynxx · 2020-09-06 23:06 Hello ! I have a server and it only got an ipv6 and I want to connect it to an irc, is there any client that allow that ? I tried weechat without luck... Thank you ! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- reallybadastronaut · 2020-09-06 23:49 The vast majority of IRC clients (weechat, irssi, hexchat, etc) all support ipv6. weechat is controlled with the `irc.server_default.ipv6` option. However, it does require that the IRC network support IPv6, and some do not have any IPv6 servers, so you should check to see if it does. You can try connecting to freenode's IPv6 only servers at chat.ipv6.freenode.net port 6697. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NoLynxx · 2020-09-06 23:59 How can I know if an IRC network support ipv6 ? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ariZon_a · 2020-09-07 01:48 by searching on the network site or something ---------------------------------------------------------------------- masta · 2020-09-07 03:36 Hexchat ---------------------------------------------------------------------- IBNash · 2020-09-07 05:12 All currently maintained clients support IPv6, do you receive a Global Unicast IPv6 address from your ISP? Read the docs - https://weechat.org/files/doc/stable/weechat_quickstar t.en.html#add_irc_server ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NoLynxx · 2020-09-07 07:44 can I install it on my server CLI I mean ? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- masta · 2020-09-07 13:09 It's not a cli. But can you install this in any Linux regardless, server, client, or otherwise. Irssi or weechat might be better choices, they also support v6. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NoLynxx · 2020-09-07 13:18 I guess the server I want to connect to doesnt support ipv6 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- OldSchoolBBSer · 2020-09-07 14:13 Sidenote: if IPv6 address changes often then you'll need to bind a stable one so you don't get dropped during IRC connection. You probably won't run into that though. I only did when experimenting with a 30sec address rotation. It's not stateless. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- scriminal · 2020-09-07 14:20 Does your home internet support v6? Check here [https://ipv6-test.com/](https://ipv6-test.com/) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NoLynxx · 2020-09-07 14:40 how can it test from a server ? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- scriminal · 2020-09-07 14:56 I guess you could just do like "ping6 [ipv6.google.com](https://ipv6.google.com)" and see if it works. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NoLynxx · 2020-09-07 18:20 Thanks ! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ferrybig · 2020-09-14 13:17 Note that windows equivalent of this is `ping -6 ipv6.google.com` ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TM271A · 2020-10-04 08:53 if you are using linux, you may give a try on irssi ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ghajik · 2022-05-27 07:44 i use it, and it doesn't work.
