technically in this case your handle doesnt matter at all if you are
using the same connection.


assuming they save logs and bother to check then yes it wouldnt take
much.

unlikely...its literally all useless chitchat. but if you are
harassing and stalking people it doesn't exactly take a genius to
figure out that someone keeps coming around talking the same way
especially considering most networks have to few people anyway.

Theoretically they can record *everything* you say.  That's how it
works.  However, it's common practice to publicly state if a
server/channel is logged, and if they do they're almost always also
published somewhere.  But by default, IRC is really *just* relaying
messages.

It is impossible for us to speculate whether the server operator, or
anyone in the middle of your connection to the server (ISPs, hosting
providers, etc.), is actively logging your messages, but the
technology certainly exists that they *could* be logging.

If you're chatting in a channel, any of the individual channel members
may have logging turned on.  If you're chatting privately, the person
on the other end may have logging turned on.

It's best to live under the assumption that anything on the Internet
is logged, whether that is actually true or not in this case.

Even if the server doesn't log, someone in the chat can just
copy/paste the text into a word document.
