Looking to set up an IRC server on LAN reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ProRedditor937 · 2020-09-01 08:45 I am a complete beginner when it comes to IRC, so I would like some pointers on how to set up a local server, not connected to the internet. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ProgVal · 2020-09-01 11:52 You don't need any specific setup for that. Actually it's even simpler than making it available from the internet as you don't need to set up a port redirect or open ports (assuming your LAN is behind a NAT or blocks incoming connections, which is the default setting of most routers). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- I-am-fun-at-parties · 2020-09-01 18:07 ngircd is reasonably straightforward for a small server ---------------------------------------------------------------------- White_Phoenix · 2020-09-02 08:35 UnrealIRCd for Windows isn't ideal anymore? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- I-am-fun-at-parties · 2020-09-02 08:42 No idea, it didn't cross my mind that someone would want to run an ircd on windows. But aside from that, unreal for a small presumably one-server IRC net sounds like overkill to me ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Dijit · 2020-09-02 08:45 If you haven’t seen it there is the fantastic oragono project which includes basically everything you could need in a single binary. It’s written in Go and from my testing it is much easier to set up than what I currently use (inspircd+atheme). Hosting on LAN, as another commenter mentions: is easier than making it available to the external internet. So it should be very easy to set up. Just follow the QuickStart. :) https://github.com/oragono/oragono
