If I connect to EFnet with a VPN client it works, but if I connect via SOCKS to a docker in which is running the same VPN client, it fails (the configuration works in other servers, EFnet is the only one where it doesn't work). WHY? What could it be? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- allexj · 2020-07-12 07:32 You may ask you why all this? I am trying to do this to avoid making my vpn directing ALL the traffic of my computer, I want ONLY irc traffic directed, so I was trying this setup. IRC client gives me this error: `Connecting…` `Connected` `The operation couldn’t be completed. (kCFErrorDomainCFNetwork error 120.)` `Disconnected` And windscribe docker gives me: `windscribe_1 | 2020-07-10 07:21:59 ERR [DANTE] Jul 10 07:21:59 (1594365719.103757) danted[485]: info: Dante/server[1/1] v1.4.2 running` `windscribe_1 | 2020-07-10 07:22:03 ERR [DANTE] Jul 10 07:22:03 (1594365723.575868) danted[488]: info: pass(1): tcp/accept [: 172.18.0.1.35880 172.18.0.2.1080` `windscribe_1 | 2020-07-10 07:22:34 ERR [DANTE] Jul 10 07:22:34 (1594365754.684438) danted[505]: info: pass(1): tcp/connect ]: 0 -> 172.18.0.1.35880 172.18.0.2.1080 -> 0, 0 -> 10.114.74.47.35880 141.213.238.252.9999 -> 0: connect timeout. I for one can't connect there. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- scriminal · 2020-07-12 21:57 The webchat is disabled and [141.213.238.252](https://141.213.238.252) looks to be [irc.umich.edu](https://irc.umich.edu) which has been delinked forever. Try one of these [http://www.efnet.org/?module=serv ers](http://www.efnet.org/?module=servers) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- unixbeard · 2020-07-12 22:00 Like /u/I-am-fun-at-parties said, you're connecting to the wrong addresses. 216.246.34.82 is efnet.org, which is the website. irc.efnet.org is the round-robin for the servers. Also, EFnet's SSL setup is retarded - some servers don't have it at all, and the servers that do have it all seem to listen on different ports (6669, 6697, 9000, 9999, ...) so it's a bit of a crapshoot whether you get connected or not. Maybe try irc.efnet.org:6667 without SSL, or find a specific server and check its MOTD for the SSL ports it listens on and use that directly. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- allexj · 2020-07-13 06:00 Thanks! I changed server and this actually fixed it. The only thing I don't understand is, why if I connect directly with VPN (without passing via socks to the docker-vpnd) with the client, I was actually able to connect with the previous server address? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- allexj · 2020-07-13 06:01 Thanks!
