ZNC can't makeconf

OK, probably I'm missing something so elementary that it isn't
described anywhere but I'm trying to run znc on a raspberry pi and it
won't let me 'makeconf'. It hangs on 'listen on port (xxx to xxx).

What am I missing?

I'm missing the fact that I'm an idiot and it is indeed so elementary
it isn't described anywhere. I was waiting for makeconf to do magic
for me, whilst I needed to answer the questions (but a questionmark
would have helped.
