First user to join a channel is automatically made operator (Inspircd) reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jeremy14444 · 2020-06-10 19:20 Title For some reason, the first person to join my test channel becomes an operator without entering passwords or anything. I tested it on my laptop and then my pc, both are using tor to join the channel so it shouldn't matter that they are on the same network (I'm new to IRC so I'm not too sure how everything works) Any reason for this? SOLUTION: removed o from defaultmodes option (wasnt set before, tried setting it and that worked) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- cities7 · 2020-06-10 19:23 first user to join a channel gets ops. that's the way it works. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jeremy14444 · 2020-06-10 19:26 Is there a way to make it so people HAVE to enter a password to be oped? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2020-06-10 19:27 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- cities7 · 2020-06-10 19:27 if you have channel services on your network, the user can register the channel. then they are opped when they authenticate. if you're not running any kind of services then it works the way we said before. first user gets ops ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2020-06-10 19:43 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jeremy14444 · 2020-06-10 19:59 I didn't change the defaultmodes option, which seems to default to nt which I dont mind. However, when I explicitly told set it to nt, it is now working. Thank you :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jeremy14444 · 2020-06-10 21:21 New problem now... I can't figure out how to op myself now. I set the password and hash type correctly, and I see the /oper command on the documentation but typing it in chat does nothing and running help says that the command doesnt exist... Am I doing something wrong?
