Would modern IRC with SASL/SSL worked during the August Coup? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- figboot_dev · 2020-05-12 16:50 ...not sure what you're asking. Also, SASL =/= SSL ---------------------------------------------------------------------- zerothis · 2020-05-17 03:38 IRC was once as easy as connecting to a server and giving an real or fake email and providing whatever username fit the moment. Then join a channel and chat or message direct. Modern IRC is more complicated. Could IRC have been used to establish unhindered two-way communication during the Coup if it required the same steps and protocols as it does today? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- WorldGenesis · 2020-05-17 19:01 I mean, Modern IRC hasn't really changed all that much, just adding stuff on-top while keeping the original stuff :P There's alot of factors, an SSL connection to the server would work to keep communication encrypted, and then using SASL secure logins to prevent false names. And then you could probably do a DCC-chat to bypass the server for doing two-way direction communication :P I believe PM's/Direct messages go through the server first before reaching the client, maybe someone can chime in and correct me on that.
