How to host a local IRC server for small channel reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Wooden_Stop · 2020-04-11 01:00 What are the basics of setting up a private IRC channel? I have UnrealIRCd downloaded and a very basic wordpess website locally hosted. I dont know where to go from here, like what do i even need the website for and how does it configure with UnrealIRCd. I started messing around in the conf file in the IRCd folders but i dont understand what i was supposed to input as real or fake info. Help a noob out, thanks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nobodynbdy · 2020-04-11 01:14 Why don't you create a channel on an existing network? You could try irc.gotham.chat 6667, 6697 for ssl ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Wooden_Stop · 2020-04-11 02:10 I just wanna host a really small group that's not easily available to randos and that i have control over for privacy reasons. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nobodynbdy · 2020-04-11 02:12 I understand, even though Inspircd has lots of channel modes/features exactly for privacy. But if you are looking to setup a server, Id say head over to freenode and get help straight from the developers setting up your unrealircd server. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- fjearful · 2020-04-11 02:19 Try using ngircd as the other IRCDs make things difficult to configure for regular people, but I don't know if it runs on windows. You don't want randoms? Well, you can set +sp to hide it and if you want better security you can set +k keyword (like password) or +i for invite only. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Wooden_Stop · 2020-04-11 02:53 thanks for the tips, gonna try this on my Kali machine ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Wooden_Stop · 2020-04-11 02:54 decent, thanks for pointing the direction ---------------------------------------------------------------------- adraenwan · 2020-04-11 15:42 I you want an easy-to-setup, up-to-date IRC server, I'd suggest oragono, or ngircd ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lolbifrons · 2020-04-21 11:08 I wouldn't use kali as a server. That's like using an industrial water jet to cut your steak for dinner. Yeah you can make it work but it's not what it was designed for and you're not going to be able to rely on normal use patterns. Forgive me if this is at all rude, but if you knew how to turn kali into a normal distro I don't think you'd be asking reddit how to set up an ircd. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2020-04-22 22:55 [removed]
