Connections issues (only) to Snoonet with AdiIrc

Whenever I try to connect to Snoonet on port 6667 (no ssl)
I get the following msg: "* Changing to STS secure port: +6697"

then the connections fails (time out).
playing with ssl settings did not help.
A different client (HexChat) on the same machine works flawlessly.

Any ideas?

It looks like AdiIrc is trying to automatically upgrade you to the SSL
connection (due to the sts capability), and you're not able to connect
over port 6697. It doesn't seem like there's a way to disable this if
you just want to connect over the non-secure port 6667, which is
weird.

The timeout may be due to your firewall settings where connections to
port 6697 (the secure IRC port) may be blocked.

Thanks. Seems like connections from my IP range on this port have
been blacklisted by several irc networks. I wonder why. Trying to
rectify this with the help of the ISP.

In AdiIRC type this command in the Editbox /setoption Misc UseSts
False

Replace False with True to enable it again.

would using a bouncer or a vpn help you in this situation?
i know it might be overkill since its one server
