Internet refusing to connect me to some IRC servers over others

So a few days ago one of the IRC servers I usually frequent suddenly
disconnected and I haven't been able to reconnect to it since. In
fact, my reconnect attempts shot up to roughly \~8900 before I reset
the connect attempts. It'd be easy to pass this off as me potentially
getting server banned or my computer being weird, but my phone is also
doing similar when I try to connect to it via AndChat- the server
refuses to connect, and will eventually stop trying to connect
overall. However, I notice it suddenly starts trying to connect again
once I disable my wifi.

I had this issue once before almost a year ago, when we first got our
new internet service. it was like this for a week, and then when we
got a replacement router because the one we got initially wasn't
working right, I was suddenly able to connect to the server without
issue. The issue lies within the router/internet connection, but I
have no idea what the issue actually is, or how to fix it. The
internet connection I'm using is XFinity, if that helps any.

As it was previously a router issue, have you tried power cycling the
router?

or calling Xfinity support for diagnosis.

NOTE: Because of high traffic, it might merely be an "internet highway
traffic jam" between you and the server. The server might even be a
bit overloaded.

I thought about calling Xfinity support about it, but last time this
happened I tried that and didn't get a whole lot of help - they told
me to power cycle the router as well, but even after trying that it
still didn't fix it.I was thinking about trying it again this time,
but as there's people currently using the internet right now, I
figured I would wait until later this evening.

also leave the power off for like 5 minutes

Do the basic stupid stuff first

Another reason I go for Comcast Business instead of Xfinity...I
wouldn't be at all surprised to find they did this because they think
you're part of a botnet that's controlled over IRC.
