IRC client for iphone where I can idle 24/7 reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- throw552away29 · 2020-03-15 20:00 I need to get some support where esentially you need to idle 24/7, wait to get pinged by an administrator then talk with them. They only do this like once a week at a random day/time so I need to be ready. Is there some iphone application that I can use to idle 24/7 in the background then just get a push notification when I get tagged? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jhoneycutt · 2020-03-15 20:06 IRC cloud can do this in its paid tier. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2020-03-15 20:22 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- onebts · 2020-03-15 20:26 Www.irccloud.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PlexP4S · 2020-03-15 20:30 Thanks... what about just leaving a irccloud tab open on my PC? Sounds like that will accomplish this with free tier. (Will keep me logged in 24/7 and iPhone app will send me push notifications on at messages ---------------------------------------------------------------------- onebts · 2020-03-15 21:44 Irccloud..... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElectronicMotion · 2020-03-15 22:01 If you know a bit how to code, you could build a little bot that uses any im Api to send you a notification via whatsapp or telegram. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Zachary_DuBois · 2020-03-15 22:55 Sadly if you are running iOS this is not possible without a bouncer. If you go the self hosted route, I currently use [ZNC](https://wiki.znc.in/ZNC) with [ZNC- Push](https://github.com/jreese/znc-push) to send me notifications for highlights/mentions via [Pushover](https://pushover.net). ZNC-Push does support more than Pushover so take a look. I then connect to ZNC on my computer using any IRC client. When I'm on my phone, I use [Palaver](https://palaverapp.com). It doesn't stay connected so make sure to install ZNC-Push to get notifications. An all-in-once solution as others have already mentioned is [IRCcloud](https://www.irccloud.com). Both methods work very well. I have been using the first method I mentioned for the last few years with no issues. Just keep everything up-to-date! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2020-03-15 22:56 I'd guess it times out but try and see. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Zachary_DuBois · 2020-03-15 22:56 You can get push notifications via a popular third party module for ZNC :) Take a look at my other comment. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2020-03-16 01:20 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 3ricG · 2020-03-16 01:26 I have an Android, but you should be able to do the same thing I do if you have a spare system where you can run a client. I run weechat on a VPS, and leave it in a screen session that's always running (you could use tmux or any other terminal multiplexer). Then I connect to it with a [relay client](https://play.google.com/store/apps /details?id=com.ubergeek42.WeechatAndroid&hl=en_US), and I believe [these exist for iOS too](https://github.com/lindskogen/weechatRN). If that doesn't work (I haven't used iOS in ages), you could also install [weechat-matrix](https://matrix.org/docs/projects/client/weechat- matrix) and use use a [Matrix client to connect](https://matrix.org/docs/projects/client/riot-ios). I guess these aren't the best options, but they work for me. One last option - if you don't need to reply from your phone, many IRC clients support pushbullet/pushover/etc for pushing notifications to your phone. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- blueskin · 2020-03-16 05:03 You'll need to use ZNC or similar for that, persistent connections and phones do not mix at all well. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NMJ87 · 2020-03-16 06:57 Keeping it open in a tab on your desktop will keep you connected, assuming irccloud itself does not go down, which basically never happens anyway so yeah Just keep it running on desktop always and your mobile client will stay connected ---------------------------------------------------------------------- k16057 · 2020-03-16 09:07 irccloud ---------------------------------------------------------------------- peterjpeters · 2020-03-17 04:39 Www.irccloud.com is what you need. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- binchick-in · 2020-03-26 20:26 Everyone mentions irc cloud... I prefer [https://thelounge.chat/](https://thelounge.chat/) Its a bouncer and a client. Easy Docker deployment, and it has a great PWA to install on your phone or desktop computer.
