I put together a shell script for WeeChat users to list the most active channels reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Seirdy · 2020-03-03 03:43 You can try it out right now without downloading anything by pasting the following into your terminal: ``` sh -c "$(curl -sSL 'https://git.sr.ht/~seirdy/chattiest- channels/blob/master/chattiest-channels')" - -n 20 ``` This will output the 20 most active channels from the last 24-25 hours. It filters out join/leave messages, channel messages, and several bots when determining which channels are active. The only dependencies are standard POSIX utilities (no bashisms!) and a `date` implementation that supports the `-d` flag. Patches are welcome; if you don't feel comfortable with sourcehut's email-based contribution system and would prefer sending a pull request, the repo is mirrored on [GitHub](https://github.com/Seirdy/chattiest-channels) and [GitLab](https://gitlab.com/Seirdy/chattiest-channels) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Machinehum · 2020-03-04 05:03 This only looks at channels you have joined right? Really cool BTW Is there a way to make it for all the channels on FN? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Equinoxdawg · 2020-03-04 13:37 No, because freenode does not store channel logs, therefore cannot generate stats for all the channels and furthermore users cannot get the data themselves because there are many channels and you can only join 120 channels per connection (joining multiple channels with multiple connections will also likely end up triggering Sigyn, which won't be very fun for you at all). You could, theoretically, hunt down any and all channels that publicly log and make some sort of parser to weed out the join/part messages created by those various official channel logging bots but that's a lot of effort, for really little gain. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Machinehum · 2020-03-04 16:10 Got it, very cool ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2020-03-04 17:09 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Seirdy · 2020-03-04 17:09 This only works for channels you have joined. I don't believe this could work for an entire network without joining every channel.
