A few Quassel questions? Using mIRC commands, detacahed messages, etc reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- relgies · 2020-02-12 03:43 Hello all, I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place but it made the most sense to ask here. I've used mIRC pretty much for forever, and while I've used other applications (Hexchat, irssi, etc) I've just become so acquainted with mIRC that it's what I prefer, especially because you can do custom mIRC scripts. With that said while I've always used mIRC with a BNC I've recently been considering changing over to Quassel so that I can simply use the core and client together along with having something that is cross platform since I do a lot on linux and Windows (even if I'm still primarily using Windows). Quassel seems to have a ton of great features including have a detachable client and being able to use split windows. While there are smaller issues that I would need to figure out over time one big thing that I've found issues with is the aliases. For example, /server -m 'server' is how you would connect to a different server on mIRC and most other clients that I've tried, however on Quassel that doesn't seem to be a valid command for doing so. I know that I could go to File > Networks > Configure Networks and add one there, along with a lot of other great configurations for post network connection commands, however I was wondering if there is just a basic server command that I'm unaware of. Along with that I'm curious if there's a list of general commands beyond [https://gist.gi thub.com/zkxs/cd7dbe85e7ddfd410665](https://gist.github.com/zkxs/cd7db e85e7ddfd410665) anywhere that people are aware of (mostly because /server or an alternative to it doesn't seem to be on there so I'm wondering if there is a more extensive list somewhere else). On another note while I like the idea of a core and client configuration I'm currently only running the core and client together on the same machine to test until I get to a point where I feel comfortable moving over to Quassel permanently. The issue I've found so far is that the core just seems to kind of, run. There's no real configuration that I've seen aside from the SQL database as opposed to various BNCs which have entire web configuration pages for things such as detached messages, etc. Is there more configuration to the core that I'm missing somewhere so that you can do these things? And on a smaller note I was considering using the monitor window for highlights and private messages, however from what I can tell the only way to get private messages to appear is to set it to opt out wherein any new window is shown, meaning I'd have to remove each channel I join. Is there a way to get the opt in option to notice new private messages? I'd presume it would have something to do with somewhat adding private messages to the highlighting section, however I'm not sure how you would go about doing so for private messages rather than a keyword. Thanks for any input and advice. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- earthrock3r · 2020-02-12 07:27 If you like mirc i would suggest that you try out adiirc. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- justjanne · 2020-02-12 08:21 Hi, great that you're asking (one of the devs here). So, no, there is no /server command and no web UI to configure e.g. detached messages, because you can configure all that through the the client UI directly. e.g. detached messages are in Settings > Identifies > Away > Away on Detach > Away on Detach Message. Regarding private messages in the chat monitor, I'm not sure that's something that's currently implemented. If you have any further questions, just ask, I'll try to respond (but be aware that it might take a while, as I'm currently on sick leave and, well, sick 😅) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- relgies · 2020-02-12 08:35 Hey thanks for taking the time to reply. First just let me say I'm incredibly sorry to hear that you're sick and truly do hope that you get to feeling better soon. I didn't even notice the tabs in the identities at first, I kind of just glanced over it and presumed it would be stuff purely for nicks, names, identd, etc. Thanks for letting me know where I could set that because a similar question I was wondering is where the part messages would be :'D And as far as the network option goes do you know if there will be any implementation of a /server or something similar as to not having to go through the GUI every time? Maybe I'm missing something but having to go through a GUI just to connect to a new server seems tedious, especially if you have multiple connections to a single IRC server as from what I can tell the only real way to then manage that is to add multiple of the same server simply with different names, which eliminates the use for things like the connect all if you don't always want those multiple connections but have to add them simply for when you do need them. Ah okay, thanks for letting me know. I wasn't sure if it needed some kind of special syntax or script to get the monitor panel to recognize PMs. I guess I'll just have to play around with it and find a different way to manage it in that case. Thanks again for taking the time to respond even while sick and I really do hope that you start feeling better soon.
