Banned on HexChat reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PwndDepot · 2020-01-21 05:23 I cannot connect to a freenode channel (#kali-linux) on HexChat, and only HexChat. I can connect on mIRC and kiwi webchat but when I try to connect on HexChat it says i'm banned. I've tried connecting over ssl and different versions of HexChat but no matter what I do it says i'm banned.... Any ideas? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- leshoop · 2020-01-21 06:07 i don't have a solid answer for you, but you could try to check the ban list while you're connected to the channel with mIRC. just double click where the messages pop up and see if maybe you've been banned somehow, maybe using your hexchat ident or something. hope you figure it out! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nonplayer · 2020-01-21 07:21 When you get banned on IRC, the person or server who bans you usually uses a mask. For example, lets say that your full identification is something like "YourNickname (username@some-ip-address.com)". So a ban mask could be "YourNickname!\*@\*.com"... that would ban anyone with the name "YourNickname". It could also be "\*!username@some-ip- address.com"... and that would ban anyone with your ip and username, no matter the nickname. Could also be your domain only, your username only, etc. I think you got the point. Now when you use an IRC client, usually they have by default the username set up (which you can easily change in the options), and a default nickname. Its been ages since I used mirc, but I think it used the username "mirc" by default. So my theory here is that your banmask probably has some piece of information that is set up in hexchat but not in the other clients, most likely your username, or maybe its trying to connect with a default nickname (which could be banned in the server for some reason). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- sniker · 2020-01-21 12:06 Banlist #kali-linux @ freenode: https://hastebin.com/yapuqizane.rb My guess is that your _identified_ hostmask is banned and HexChat identifies you upon connecting while neither mIRC or kiwi does. Check if anything on that list matches you. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PwndDepot · 2020-01-21 20:02 Thanks for the replies everyone! Seems that I forgot to change the default username, I was mixing up nickname and username on hexchat, changing it allowed me into the channel! Thanks again!!
