Absolute noob wants to learn about IRC and how to set it up reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NotBamboozle · 2020-01-14 14:41 I literally don't know *anything* about IRC, my preferred client is yaaic on Android. Just found it to be an interesting thing I'd like to explore. Where do I start? How do I connect to freenode? Also any guides would be really helpful ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NotBamboozle · 2020-01-14 14:44 I put chat.freenode.net as server @ port 6697 Should SSL be on? It doesn't connect ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eskimo_dev · 2020-01-14 15:19 SSL should be enabled. Did you set a nick? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GrandWizardZippy · 2020-01-14 15:19 6667 is for non ssl connections and 6697 is for ssl connections. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NotBamboozle · 2020-01-14 15:42 Yes enabled SSL connected and registered Nick and verified email What to do next? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NotBamboozle · 2020-01-14 15:42 Ohh, I chose SSL one and verified my nick ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eskimo_dev · 2020-01-14 15:43 Sounds like you're connected if you registered a nick. Join a channel. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NotBamboozle · 2020-01-14 15:57 Sorry but I don't know any, do you have any recommendations for starters? I'll be exploring this more in the coming days ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eskimo_dev · 2020-01-14 16:07 ##freenode ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NotBamboozle · 2020-01-14 16:13 Nice, thanks, appreciate the help! Joined #reddit ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eggbean · 2020-01-14 20:24 Snoonet is the server network for reddit, but it's mostly bots givings links. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Garrick17 · 2020-01-15 03:45 Bump ---------------------------------------------------------------------- redchief10 · 2020-01-15 05:54 I would advise you to try out a terminal client first from my point of view it gives you the original taste of talking on IRC. Preferably use IRSSI You can open it by typing \`irssi\` or \`irssi -n \` also you'll need to register you nickname using then you can \`/join #' and boom you're chatting. [Here's a helpful document link](https://irssi.org/documentation/startup/#server-and-channel- automation) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NotBamboozle · 2020-01-15 06:55 Thanks, gonna check if out. Is IRSSI an app? How/Where would I type the commands? Also, my client can't connect when I'm on seed4me VPN(works with others) do you have an idea why? Does IRC come under WebRTC or something? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2020-01-15 09:51 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Xsimon47 · 2020-01-15 12:25 It's a terminal application, so it won't run by default on Android. Thankfully, there's [Termux](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.termux); a terminal emulator with extensive Unix functionality. Install that, and then install irssi using `pkg install irssi` And then run it by entering `irssi` ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NotBamboozle · 2020-01-15 16:07 It's perfect. Exactly what I was looking for, thanks!
