Can't log in to Snoonet with ZNC but KiwiIRC works fine? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ken_Mcnutt · 2020-01-02 22:22 I've been setting up my ZNC instance and so far freenode works perfectly and I can log in with SASL. However snoonet is a different story. I put in my registered nickname and password, same as I did with freenode. When I try to connect, I get the error 1ARAMLW9F: USER: Your username is not valid Like it isn't even trying to use the nickname I supplied. I can log in to snoonet just fine through the KiwiIRC web UI. Has anyone else gotten it to work? I even had snoonet working on weechat when I was connecting directly without ZNC. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2020-01-02 23:55 What does ZNC say if you execute `/msg *controlpanel get ident` on your Snoonet connection? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2020-01-02 23:58 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ken_Mcnutt · 2020-01-03 00:24 Found where the output was going. Here's what is said; : get ident *controlpanel: Ident = name@name where hostname seems to be the hostname of my system, even though I defined that *nowhere* in the ZNC settings. I changed my ident to `name@name` where `name` is a version of my nick, so that seems to be working OK. I'm assuming my hostname being passed through is the cause of the error? That being said I haven't seen the hostname come up when snoonet is complaining about invalid nicknames. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2020-01-03 09:03 The error is caused by @ not being allowed in usernames. I'm guessing you entered the wrong thing when configuring it because ZNC won't do that by itself. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ken_Mcnutt · 2020-01-03 15:45 I guess I fundementally misunderstand what an "Ident" is. Because from the examples I've seen they take for form of `xx@xx`, and this worked for freenode. My nickname does not contain a @. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2020-01-03 16:46 freenode's IRC server has special handling which drops everything after the @ to avoid problems like this. There's a module which does this for InspIRCd too but Snoonet doesn't have it loaded.
