Creating IRC server reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Neko_Andra · 2019-12-27 22:08 For studying purposes I chose to make a secure (encrypted) IRC server. But I've tried many links and most are outdated or incomplete. Can somebody please explain or link me to something recent? It should be local, between virtual machines. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- KindOne · 2019-12-27 22:43 Just to be clear, you want to make your own IRCd? What language do you plan on using? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AdmiralFace · 2019-12-27 23:06 Are you setting up an IRC server? I followed the [unrealircd page on arch wiki](https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/UnrealIRCd). Arch Wiki is normally a good place to go. Though UnrealIRCd went from v4 to v5, it hasn't changed. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Neko_Andra · 2019-12-27 23:17 Rather set it up. I didn't think I could code it, I ain't that good. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LameBMX · 2019-12-27 23:36 If you know nix, you can just run the IRC daemon on the pc. Block the IRC ports. Open ssh ports. Use irssi in screen. Ssh from client machine into server machine and screen back to your irssi. This will not matter the irc daemon running on the server is and faster than most server side SSL config. And more secure as there will not be the unencrypted info to turn on the secure connection. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DoctorReis · 2019-12-28 00:07 Do you need test subjects? I am interested in this, and would love to be part of this project. Please PM if you need a test eng. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eskimo_dev · 2019-12-28 03:10 I recommend inspircd. Easy to setup and the docs are good. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Neko_Andra · 2020-01-05 17:43 Hi! Thank you all. I managed to make what I wanted to. Cheers!
