New user, I have a dumb question reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2019-11-07 12:32 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- trobotham · 2019-11-07 12:35 They shouldn’t but unfortunately some irc networks still do it, you should be using unique random passwords for every service ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LtSmegma · 2019-11-07 18:44 Not trying to troll here but DALnet is still stuck in the early 2000's. There are better networks out there. u/trobotham is right. Edit: I have fond memories of DALnet. It was the first network i joined as a kid. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Dijit · 2019-11-07 22:12 legit scary, I would definitely not trust that service. FWIW I run an IRC network and our backend (powered by atheme) one-way hashes the passwords of all users. And obviously if they're able to send the plaintext version of your password then it is not one-way hashed. I wouldn't store this information in plaintext even if it was an option atheme had, that's asking for abuse and trouble. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DeeMTL514 · 2019-11-10 10:52 I will definitely take the opportunity and tell you to join a new network, which is Gotham IRC Network, IRC.gotham.chat ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eggbean · 2019-11-14 08:33 It used to be the most advanced network.
