SSL Certificates On Android (Revolution IRC) reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BibliotecadelaManana · 2019-07-19 03:49 Hello. I am trying to setup SSL Connection via Revolution IRC to, well, anywhere but specifically Freenode. I have had difficulty finding instructions on how to get CA Certificates on my phone for this activity. Any direction or assistance is appreciated. May the Beep Boop Boopy Boop Beep Your Beepy. <3 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JoseALerma · 2019-07-19 08:50 Found this Google Support article for [Nexus devices](https://support.google.com/nexus/answer/2844832?hl=en) I'm on Android 7 and it has the features. TL;DR: 1. Open your device's Settings app (gear icon). 2. Tap **Security & location** and then **Advanced** and then **Encryption & credentials**. 3. Under "Credential storage," tap **Install from storage**. 4. In the top left, tap Menu (hamburger icon). 5. Under "Open from," tap where you saved the certificate. 6. Tap the file. (If needed, enter the key store password. Tap **OK**.) 7. Type a name for the certificate. 8. Pick **VPN and apps** or **Wi-Fi**. 9. Tap **OK**. *Edit:* But if connecting **to** an IRC server, you should only need to add an SSL exception to the IRC client when trying to connect. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BibliotecadelaManana · 2019-07-19 18:33 Thank you for all this. It has helped me find how to install a root certificate to me phone. Though, could you elaborate a little on the SSL exception? I seem to have an issue where nothing shows up when I connect to the server: ircs://chat.freenode.net on port 6697. I have selected "Use SSL/TLS". It states there are "0 custom certificates saved". Not knowing anything for the rest I leave everything blank/default and attempt to connect. No channels show up once opened and there is only a blank page. Potential ID: 10T error. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JoseALerma · 2019-07-19 19:04 You might need to connect to [ircs://irc.freenode.net:6697](ircs://irc.freenode.net:6697). Here's the server settings I used: https://imgur.com/9K21Rmc Then it began to connect: https://imgur.com/oin3WTr Then it connected, later yelled at me for not registering, then disconnected me for inactivity: https://imgur.com/Oy9q9AO *Edit*: I also tried [ircs://chat.freenode.net:6697](ircs://chat.freenode.net:6697) and got the same responses. Didn't need to add a custom certificate. My apologies I couldn't be more help, but I'm glad to be a bit of service. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BibliotecadelaManana · 2019-07-20 04:45 No worries. You've helped a lot. With all the same settings as yourself I still don't see any channels listed when I "connect" and go to "channel list". Thank you again, though. I may just have to wait for now. §•_•§ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JoseALerma · 2019-07-20 05:36 You're welcome! I didn't get a channel list either. I figured it was a bug with the client or the server intentionally not providing a channel list. I'll do some more testing on my IRC server to confirm. *Edit:* Looks like a bug with the client - I cannot connect to my IRC server via SSL even with a certificate exception at all. [AndChat works fine](https://imgur.com/Cuu0tEj), even though it technically doesn't exist anymore (glad I saved the APK). Looks like we both need to file a bug report on GitHub. *Edit2:* Looks like Revolution IRC is [pretty much unmaintained](https://github.com/MCMrARM/revolution-irc/issues/175). I guess I can work on learning Kotlin/Java... Until then, I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to use aside from IRCCloud. *Edit3:* [Opened an issue](https://github.com/MCMrARM/revolution- irc/issues/227) on GitHub anyway. Can anyone connect on a newer/older version of Android? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2021-11-01 07:14 [removed] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- hkopi · 2022-03-17 15:41 I can use my phone to use irssi thrue vps like. But you can download Termux...Then install all Linux IRC clients plus ssl, and you are home!
