iOS alternatives to IRCCloud reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ISpewVitriol · 2019-07-16 22:33 Currently using IRCCloud and I have really loved using it. Might consider continue using it because I really like the iOS app. I’m looking for a client that has the same kind of ‘always connected’ features, that allows me to jump on my phone or computer to chat in the channels without having to connect/disconnect constantly or maintain two different Nicks for each device. Also, the way IRCCloud works is very battery efficient. I have a Linux VPS that I use as a VPN/SOCKS5 proxy that I could set something up as like a ‘bouncer’ but I’m not sure of any iOS apps that would work with it. Thanks for your input! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eskimo_dev · 2019-07-16 23:08 Literally every single IRC client on iOS will connect to any bouncer. Palaver and Igloo are really the only decent options. Limechat is pretty old and the others aren't even worth mentioning. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ISpewVitriol · 2019-07-16 23:20 Alright. For a bouncer do I just use ZNC? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eskimo_dev · 2019-07-16 23:21 Yeah ZNC is probably the best option. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mindlesstux · 2019-07-17 00:52 So I have a mixed use. I use ios/android/windows/linux. I wanted one interface but multiple connections that irccloud only offered under a monthly fee. I found [https://thelounge.chat/](https://thelounge.chat/) that gets rather close but is self hosted. If you load the hosted site you can install it as a webapp on both ios and android that acts just like a real app. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ISpewVitriol · 2019-07-17 02:24 Thanks for your help! I got it setup, and was able to connect with mIRC and I'm trying out Palaver (since it was the cheapest). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Dijit · 2019-07-17 08:07 Palaver has good ZNC integrations, allowing for push notifications and stuff. I would go with that combo. (well, I did go with that combo) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ISpewVitriol · 2019-07-17 14:50 So, I’m trying to figure it out. I’m noticing when I jump back on sometimes I will get caught up with all the messages I missed, and sometimes it does not catch me up. I suspect it is related to my session of WeeChat running on my VPS that is also connect to my ZNC and always on. I have the push module working, I think. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Dijit · 2019-07-17 15:30 yeah, ZNC will only keep messages when you're marked "AWAY", which happens automatically if all clients are disconnected. you can make weechat set the away status if you're disconnected[0], or you can do `/away` manually when you disconnect. [0]: with something like; https://weechat.org/scripts/source/screen_away.py.html/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eskimo_dev · 2019-07-17 20:04 The igloo push module is a modified version of znc-push which is a lot more configurable for your use case. Also, you'll wanna use the clientbuffer module for znc as well so it'll keep individual buffers for each client so they all always get all missed logs. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ISpewVitriol · 2019-07-17 20:48 I think I solved it by disabling Auto Clear Chan Buffer and Auto Clear Query Buffer for all of the channels. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ISpewVitriol · 2019-07-17 20:49 Thanks. I might try it out but I think I have my issues solved for now. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eskimo_dev · 2019-07-18 00:08 Yeah that's not the solution. That'll make it keep sending your full buffer over and over again. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ISpewVitriol · 2019-07-18 00:15 It doesn't appear to be doing that all. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ilovethosedogs · 2019-08-11 18:18 Mutter was the absolute best. And free. Such a shame ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eskimo_dev · 2019-08-11 18:18 Igloo > All ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ilovethosedogs · 2019-08-11 20:37 Wait, aren't you the developer of Igloo? Igloo looks cool too but I don't really like the monospaced font on the example screenshots. Palaver looks more professional. But that's customizable probably. I couldn't get the Igloo push module to compile since I'm running ZNC in a docker container, but that goes for Palaver too. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eskimo_dev · 2019-08-11 20:38 Lol yeah I am. And yeah, monospace is a setting. I prefer it though. Palaver drove me crazy and is the reason I made igloo tbh heh ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ilovethosedogs · 2019-08-11 20:57 Then we've definitely talked on IRC before. Any tips on how exactly to go about compiling the push notification module when I'm running ZNC in docker? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eskimo_dev · 2019-08-11 21:00 Good question. I hate all things docker so I wouldn't know. But I'm sure someone in #znc on freenode would know or Holo on my network. He's a docker freak. Edit: https://hub.docker.com/_/znc he linked me to that. Apparently you just put the cpp in a folder.
