These channels had been in regular use for decades. Others had the same problems. Now I and others are being kicked. I note that links on most webpages on http://www.starchat.net/ are not functioning. Is StarChat a dying sun, fading into blackness? It always seemed well- managed. Or was it sold to new owners? Seems they are feeling the need to exercise the GLINE functionity of their servers as much as possible. We had a few channels there, out of nowhere (after years) they GLINE out channel bots (yes, the channels were registered, but these bots provided information services to channel users, nothing abusive.) Next, channel members and ops who used ZNC (their own, not public ones) found themselves GLINEd with the reason "ZNC" A few people got smart and moved their stuff to new boxen, but those were GLINEd in short order as well. Eventually we all packed up and moved to Chatopia. Haven't had any issues since. Seems StarChat doesn't want users, and will find any and all excuses to GLINE users. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- baudwalk · 2019-06-23 16:49 Thanks for the feedback. The channels I mentioned were registered too, and were alway well-mannered and free of nonsense. Though I have been on IRC since the early 1990s, I don't consider myself a power user. I am not familiar with GLINE and ZNC; had to look those things up. Re SrarChat, my guess is there was a change of ownership or it was losing money. I am curious to know the inside story. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mgocobachi · 2019-06-23 18:15 As far as I know, yes they moved to new owners and these new owners removed the StarIRCD that was used since the beginning, and the Azar services as well, so if you had registered any channel or nickname it was completely deleted. I was away from StarChat when it happened as they were getting harder and harder to connect to. Luverly passed away last year leaving Rat_On in charge of operations, starchat reformated in his words they had no choice. I talked to him maybe late last year he said he didn't think ir would be around much longer. I just tried to connect and can't. I remember those heady days of using webtv to play trivia\_house on starchat. I would rush home from a hard day's work and play for hours. I built up a lot of friends there, too. It was a close community that was a support group on the side really. So sad when trivia\_house went away years ago and now no starchat. It just doesn't seem possible that it has been so many years ago.
