VPN for IRC pirating? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- supersitos · 2019-03-31 13:40 Should I use one? is it as dangerous as torrent for piracy or am I relatively safe? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eskimo1106 · 2019-03-31 14:32 Lol you can't honestly expect an answer here. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- supersitos · 2019-03-31 14:32 and why not? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eskimo1106 · 2019-03-31 14:34 IRC doesn't exist for piracy, and piracy is illegal. This question has nothing to do with IRC. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- xxsporkalert · 2019-03-31 16:10 Piracy in IRC requires the use of DCC sending. This exposes your client to another client for P2P file sending. I've personally never tried DCC over VPN but I would assume it works fine because it is p2p over the irc network. IP address should stay hidden but don't quote me in that. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Direct_Client-to-Client ---------------------------------------------------------------------- beetard · 2019-03-31 17:43 Why don't you ask /r/piracy ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lazyfingersy · 2019-03-31 20:14 Don't pirate mate. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2019-04-06 10:40 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- supersitos · 2019-04-06 15:34 IRC is very useful for ebooks ---------------------------------------------------------------------- supersitos · 2019-04-06 15:35 in fact i think irc is better than torrent for lots of things ---------------------------------------------------------------------- terrencemckenna · 2019-04-08 01:44 People wanting to use IRC for piracy think that everyone who uses IRC must be looking to pirate, but you're a small minority of IRC traffic. You might want to checkin at r/piracy and see if they can help, but your question's off topic here, which is why you're getting responses like above. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- supersitos · 2019-04-08 02:01 meh thats fine, i recently found out irc uses p2p like traffic for downloads, also yes ik that im aware of many open source projects which use irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- terrencemckenna · 2019-04-08 02:04 Yup, they're another small fraction of the community, you're right. Well, glad you're educating yourself either way, and glad you got your answer. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- supersitos · 2019-04-08 02:10 what other things is IRC used for? I sorta wasnt alive when it was used as a way to talk to people (im 15) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- neetrobot · 2019-04-14 17:03 IRC probably shows up as direct download and authorities when they even care only do when it's peer to peer stuff. I doubt anyone notices this sort of thing when it's software from the 80s and only torrenting is being watched for that reason. That and servers that upload files for direct download, but that's not the downloading user of course. You could have a backup copy, so the issue becomes with torrents that you are uploading it too, so that is the issue. Downloading with an irc server is only downloading, and you could have a copy, so you are okay with the law. The server might not be, but you are. And that's if they even watch that shit. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- xman82456 · 2019-04-25 05:31 b-b-b-but free stuff ---------------------------------------------------------------------- pat-e · 2019-04-30 07:06 Well, it can be used for mass communication including a Log (either client-side or server-side). For the younger generation: The Twitch.TV - Chat is based on IRC. The browser (client) connects to IRC-Server that hosts all the Chat. The Browser has an "addon" to change certain key-words to images (emotes), because IRC only uses text (ASCII) in chat (and not emotes).
