no idea how to use irc, my friend is making me host a channel and "we
need the +i command somewhere with our names"

Channel mode +i is invite only. You set via /mode #yourchannel +i

Then you just invite each user into the room otherwise they cannot
join. /invite #yourchannel SomeNickname

`/mode #channel +I $a:somebodies_account` will then automatically
allow a user in without an explicit invite. (Note the account syntax
is probably freenode specific)

On InspIRCd the syntax is `/MODE #channel +I R:account-name-goes-here`

/mode #channelname +i

/invite user #channelname

/knock #channelname to get in or maybe its /ctcp #channelname knock

/mode usernick +i for invisible

is the /knock not supposed to be needed when invited?

+I gets "Can't change mode for other users"
