Can't DCC Send reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- StormJourney · 2019-03-09 15:38 Hi Reddit. I created my first account on here because I don't know where else to ask. I've been on IRC for over 20 years, so I'm not completely unfamiliar with it. Up until a few months ago my settings were all fine, but all of a sudden I can't DCC Send anymore. I run mIRC 7.55 and OmenServe 2.73. I've checked with all my channel people as well as the OS creator himself, and everything seems to be set up as it should. I've tried turning off my firewall as well as my antivirus, switched lookup method from normal to server and back. The only thing I can think of is that maybe it has something to do with my ipv4/6 settings. I have mIRC enabled for both, so shouldn't need to forward any ports (which my modem/router doesn't offer anymore, anyway). Nothing has changed in my setup from before (save maybe some Windows and Antivirus updates), but it just refuses to DCC Send. Help please anyone? I would really appreciate it, I'm at my wits' end. Thank you in advance. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- coldf2 · 2019-03-09 15:46 I haven’t heard omenserve in a long time. Crazy. Anyways it’s a port issue. Are you ports open? DCC will drive you crazy some times. I can help more but I’m on mobile. Would need my laptop to see what I’m doing. Pm me if you want and I’ll help when I get on a computer later. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- StormJourney · 2019-03-09 15:49 That would be fantastic, thank you for your offer of help. PM sent! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- programmerben · 2019-03-09 20:14 People don't really DCC much anymore, but when you DCC send something, you actually open ports on your side, and then tell the person/thing you're sending to to connect to you. Which means: 1) Your IRC client must know its WAN IP (can often automatically determine this, check the DCC send request and make sure it's an internet IP and not a LAN IP) 2) You must have the ability to forward a range of ports in your firewall to the machine you're DCC sending from, and then configure that range in your IRC client. Google how to do these things. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- StormJourney · 2019-03-09 20:46 Thank you for replying, but I am aware of those points. As I mentioned, it was sending fine up until recently (I've had a server for the past two decades, with various scripts). I can't figure out what's changed. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- programmerben · 2019-03-09 21:29 And when you looked at the request, did it have a WAN or LAN IP? When you looked at your port forwarding settings in your router, did they match what you had configured in your IRC client? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- StormJourney · 2019-03-09 21:40 It's the WAN IP. And my router/modem won't let me forward ports. My provider switched me to ipv6 last year. I had them roll me back to ipv4, which they did, but my port forwarding is still greyed out. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2019-03-10 11:50 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- StormJourney · 2019-03-11 18:33 So for any who might be interested, I called my provider about the greyed-out port forwarding and was informed that the router/modem which they supplied with my contract does not offer port forwarding. I would have to either buy my own supportive modem or rent one from them for a monthly fee in order to have port forwarding again.
