A Blog Post on Setting up an IRC client and ZNC :D reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TingPing · 2019-03-08 03:03 HexChat dev here; Your Ubuntu command is wrong but anyway I generally suggest all Linux users get hexchat via [Flatpak](https://flatpak.org): `flatpak install https://flathub.org/repo/appstream/io.github.Hexchat.flatpakref`. It is also not available for macOS. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Sudipto_Ghosh · 2019-03-08 03:15 The Debian/Ubuntu command was absolutely a typo. Sorry for that. Will then include the link for flatpak and snap packages too :D Can't OS X users build it via Homebrew? ([https://hexchat.readthedocs. io/en/latest/building.html](https://hexchat.readthedocs.io/en/latest/b uilding.html)) Anyways, I will update my post, thank you for pointing things out! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TingPing · 2019-03-08 03:22 > Will then include the link for flatpak and snap packages too :D Don't actually mention snap; It is just a worse package. Its just too much work to remove it from the site. > Can't OS X users build it via Homebrew? (https://hexchat.readthedocs.io/en/latest/building.html) Anyways, I will update my post, thank you for pointing things out! It requires a lot of knowledge to build it manually, its not tested or supported and the end result if you accomplish it is a pretty poor experience anyway. It isn't the same but Textual is my go to recommendation for mac users. It is also FOSS and has good support. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Sudipto_Ghosh · 2019-03-08 03:39 Updated! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eskimo1106 · 2019-03-09 14:09 It's chat.freenode.net not irc.freenode.net ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Sudipto_Ghosh · 2019-03-10 01:57 chat.freenode.net gave me DNS resolution errors a few times, hence, I checked http://irc.netsplit.de/servers/?net=freenode and irc.freenode.net worked for me 😊 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Sudipto_Ghosh · 2019-03-10 02:09 "Their servers are all accessible from the host names chat.freenode.net and irc.freenode.net, which load balances connections by using the actual servers in rotation."
