Will irc traffic automatically be included as long as vpn is connected? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thoughtfulparsnip · 2019-02-03 01:10 I'm using MIRC and Expressvpn. Is having expressvpn connected enough or does it need to be set up to work with MIRC somehow? All I'm using it for is ebooks anyway. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TheAmazingFailure · 2019-02-03 03:06 As long as the VPN is connected it will cover mIRC as well. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Drooliog · 2019-02-03 15:03 Generally, all traffic is directed over the VPN when the VPN is active, but what I think you're getting at is if you should *bind* to a specific adapter, to prevent traffic accidentally getting out should the VPN drop - similar to recommended practice with bittorrent clients. You don't have to do it, and TBH I don't know how well it works in mIRC, but there **is** an option in mIRC to bind to an adapter. It's under Tools menu > Options (Alt+O) > Connect > Options > Ports button > tick Bind to Adapter or IP address and choose the relevant adapter from the pulldown. You'll have to determine what adapter the VPN creates while the VPN is active since, at least with PIA, it doesn't show up otherwise. Look through your list of adapters by typing ncpa.cpl into the Windows Start button. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thoughtfulparsnip · 2019-02-03 23:29 Perfect, thank you :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thoughtfulparsnip · 2019-02-03 23:30 I'm very new at irc AND vpn so I didn't mean that because I have no idea what most of that means! Sorry! I did just wonder if the vpn would direct irc through it without any additional setting up. Thanks for your answer though, I do appreciate it and I'm sure it will help someone else :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- onebts · 2019-02-06 19:46 Long live mIRC!!!! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- uneducatedcontrarian · 2019-03-03 22:03 The main issue here would be if the VPN was leaking ipv6 and only supported ipv4, then you connected to a server that accepts v6 and your client wasn't limited to v4, selecting v6 to connect automatically.
