At one point it was the 3rd largest IRC network. The founder Mark Owen passed away last month. >It is with a *very* heavy heart that I announce the passing of the Founder of the WebChat IRC Network and CEO of WebMaster, Incorporated, Mark Owen, on December 11th, 2018. No public Services were held. All of the Staff here will honor his life & memory by continuing to move forward. Seems like suddenly over night he just gave the domain to them, and they replaced our ircd with ConferenceRoom running on Windows. We were all Linux. I worked with Mark on the network since it's early days. I was working for a fairly prominent ISP in Seattle in '95. and ours was the 4th server to join the network ([irc.prostar.wa.us.webchat.org](https://ir c.prostar.wa.us.webchat.org)). In '98 I was asked by Mark to become a member of the Network's Executive Committee, and filled that position until I semi-retired in 2006. I then took the reins of the network's streaming music service, and I still run that to this day, as well as being the Network Admin. At this point, we have no idea what will happen to the network. The [webmaster.com](https://webmaster.com) domain is up for sale, but the [irc.webmaster.com](https://irc.webmaster.com) & [irc.webchat.org](https://irc.webchat.org) registrations still work as well as WebChat Radio ([http://radio.webmaster.com:8000/listen.pls](ht tp://radio.webmaster.com:8000/listen.pls)). A number of the former staff, including myself, have moved to SpiderChat ( irc.spiderchat.org ), while others have moved on to other networks.
