Having trouble connecting to Snoonet with HexChat reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- HexenHase · 2018-11-09 18:55 Hi there, Sorry if this is a stupidly simple issue. I'm not that bright. I'm having trouble connecting to snoonet lately - they repeatedly tell me that the SSL handshake timed out The IP I try to connect to is 88.202.186.46:6697 I have "Use SSL for all the servers on this network" enabled, as well as "Accept invalid SSL certificates". I am also using PIA, which is where I think the problem is, so without disabling VPN, does anyone have any clues? Thank you so much for any and all help! Edit: I have discovered that all UK VPN servers, the Netherlands server and the French server refuse connection but the Spanish server seems to permit it and have reported these as blocked sites to PIA themselves. Meanwhile, can anyone explain this weirdness to me? I'm sort of confused and hoping there is a way around it for the future. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- A-UNDERSCORE-D · 2018-11-09 19:22 Hi, you will want to connect via [irc.snoonet.org](irc://irc.snoonet.or) rather than directly connecting to an IP. Weird issues can occur when long distances are involved, especially when you add a VPN on top that adds even more delay to the connection. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- HexenHase · 2018-11-09 20:38 Hi! Thank you so much for replying! Via the server list setup, I am connecting via irc.snoonet.org I was trying to be extra-helpful with giving the IP address, just in case. Sorry for the confusion. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- A-UNDERSCORE-D · 2018-11-10 05:59 You may want to check that your system time is correct, as that can mess with SSL certificate verification. And, you will want to uncheck `Accept Invalid SSL certs` as our certificates are not self-signed, and therefore you are needlessly removing a security feature. Otherwise, I am unsure what is causing your issue, we don't have any large bans on PIA IPs at that level.
