Can I stop the "ping timeouts" when my clock changes? (Hexchat) reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dewdude · 2018-10-16 22:03 I started having a problem I thought was network, about every hour or so my connections to my ZNC bouncer would drop...every single one. I thought this was network at first.... then I noticed my clock was 45 minutes slow. I reset it...but two hours later.....everything is reconnecting. Click is 45 minutes slow. I installed some lightweight (apparently) NTP tool on my PC, set it for the lowest sync possible; 15 minutes. I am exactly 3.757 minutes off. However the problem is every time it moves my clock; my bouncer reconnects. I'm using Hexchat...it's telling me this: * No ping reply for 255 seconds, disconnecting. So...apparently it's seeing time update and assuming "oh...no ping; let me disconnect a still working connection". Is there any workaround to fix this? Increase the ping timeout in HexChat maybe? I know I need new hardware...but money is so tight that I just can't do it right now. I do not need advice on how to fix the clock problem; I have tried everything and nothing works. No one seems to know how the PC clock works anymore and if it's beyond "changing the battery" or "turning on Internet Time" people are clueless. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TingPing · 2018-10-16 22:11 `/set net_ping_timeout 0` ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dewdude · 2018-10-16 22:13 I ran that. Some of them were already at 0 and still disconnecting. I guess I'm just going to have to live with this for the next six weeks until I can replace the entire machine. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TingPing · 2018-10-16 22:20 If it is `0` it means hexchat is no longer caring itself, any disconnections happen elsewhere. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- svn · 2018-10-16 22:21 How about you fix your clock? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dewdude · 2018-10-16 22:23 If I knew what the hell the problem is I would. I am convinced this motherboard is on it's way out so...there's nothing I can do except live with it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dewdude · 2018-10-16 22:34 *edit: Wait..that's a global variable rather than per-server/network isn't it? I just realized if it was global then 0 is normal after setting it once. In that case I think it fixed things for now. Thank you!* ---------------------------------------------------------------------- svn · 2018-10-16 22:45 It's probably the motherboard, yes. You should buy a new one. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dewdude · 2018-10-16 22:50 This is difficult when you do not have the money to do so. I mean...as soon as I do it's a done deal.
