New to IRC, so a few questions. reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- D0ntTouchMy-Cactus · 2018-09-24 04:40 How to use undernet to dl files? What else can I download using IRC? And how? (What channels?) And chatrooms??¿¿ how on earth do i access them? Thank you. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FiendKing04 · 2018-09-24 10:49 Downloading would be done via DCC. Use /list to bring up a list of public channels. Double click or type /j #ChannelNameHere ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Monkespank · 2018-09-24 14:23 https://ixirc.com/ to search for stuff to dl. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AltReality · 2018-09-24 16:20 IRC is not a file transfer client. Yes you can do it, but it is slow. Look for torrent sites or something for downloads. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Kaelidoz · 2018-09-24 16:43 This isn't true. DCC can be pretty fast. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Kaelidoz · 2018-09-24 16:48 https://old.reddit.com/r/irc/comments/9ijksw/how_to_download_stuff_wit h_irc/ you're welcome. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AltReality · 2018-09-24 17:14 compared to torrents or direct downloads? DCC is limited by the upstream connection on the sending end...most ISPs have an extremely throttled upstream connection...so DCC will be slow when downloading from your average joe almost every time. Torrents and Direct Downloads come from servers with a higher likelihood of having a decent upstream connection. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Kaelidoz · 2018-09-24 17:19 Files aren't usually hosted by an average joe... It's fast. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ifaarix · 2018-09-30 12:21 1. To list all the present chatrooms on current server, use "**/list**" (without "") 2. To enter/join a specific chat-room/channel, use "**/join #channel\_name\_here**" (without "") 3. I don't recommend using IRC as a medium for file transferring/downloads, but that doesn't mean you can't do it. The [DCC](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Direct_Client-to-Client) protocol allows you to do that on IRC clients. I would recommend, [Hexchat](https://hexchat.github.io/) (Free) or [mIRC](https://www.mirc.com/) (Paid). Take a look at this post for a simple How-To guide, [Download stuff with IRC](https://old.reddit.com/ r/irc/comments/9ijksw/how_to_download_stuff_with_irc/). 4. Most well-known Networks like [Freenode](https://freenode.net/), [LunarIRC](https://lunarirc.net/), [Undernet](http://www.undernet.org/) has their own help channels, like "*#help*" Use those for Network related help or issues. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2018-09-30 12:21 [removed] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- D0ntTouchMy-Cactus · 2018-10-02 08:09 Thanks😊
