Alternative to IRCCloud? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2018-06-10 13:03 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Irishsmurf · 2018-06-10 13:15 My personal IRC client is using Weechat \+ [Glowing Bear](https://www.glowing-bear.org/) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- frumious · 2018-06-10 14:00 https://wiki.znc.in/ZNC ---------------------------------------------------------------------- izerth · 2018-06-10 15:40 I use Quassel-core on a raspberry pi with quassel-client on my PC & laptop and quasseldroid on my phone. For multiple devices, it works great. I have other things that drain my phone faster, so I haven't noticed. GCM/FCM isn't implemented in Quasseldroid yet because it requires Quassel-core to support it and your own FCM API keys. One that you didn't ask: DCC file transfers/DCC chat do not work. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- sentriz · 2018-06-10 19:42 https://github.com/thelounge/thelounge ? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- C-Storm · 2018-06-10 20:02 I switched from irccloud to thelounge, and i'm not looking back. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Techman- · 2018-06-10 20:34 I used to be an IRCCloud user for years and years, and then I finally switched to weechat and glowing-bear. **This setup is a little more involved** than other solutions probably mentioned in this thread, but I'll try to give a loose explanation of things: 1. [WeeChat](https://weechat.org/) is an IRC client that runs in the terminal or a multiplexer like tmux or screen. I recommend running it on a server in tmux so that it functions as a "backend". 2. [Glowing-Bear](https://github.com/glowing-bear/glowing-bear#readme) is a web frontend that connects to WeeChat directly using WebSockets. It can be used on desktop and mobile, although it might struggle on the latter depending on how powerful your device is. 3. [WeeChat-Android](https://github.com/ubergeek42/weechat-android) is an Android frontend that connects to WeeChat directly, using a multitude of connection methods (direct SSL is fine). ---- For WeeChat, there are some scripts you'll be interested in if you want to replicate features you're used to in IRCCloud. 1. [irssinotifier.py](https://weechat.org/scripts/source/irssinotifier .py.html/) - When used with the IrssiNotifer app, this is an easy way to set up and receive push notifications. 2. [screen_away.py](https://weechat.org/scripts/source/screen_away.py. html/) - Can be set up to only mark as away when the terminal is detached AND when none of the relay interfaces (those "frontends") are connected. --- I highly recommend you read the [WeeChat docs](https://weechat.org/doc/) on how to customize the client to your liking, though. **Once it's set up the way you like it, no other IRC client will be as personal to you as WeeChat is.** ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2018-06-11 13:48 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2018-06-11 13:50 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2018-06-11 13:54 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2018-06-11 13:56 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2018-06-11 14:00 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Techman- · 2018-06-11 14:49 Don't forget screen_away! It's your effective form of auto-away when all clients disconnect, similar to IRCCloud. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2018-06-11 15:25 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- sentriz · 2018-06-11 19:05 No android app, but it works very well on mobile. Also AFAIK a native app is in the works ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2018-06-11 19:08 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Giraffestock · 2018-06-12 06:16 TheLounge qualifies as a PWA on Android and uses Service Workers to act as close to a native app as possible. You can save to homescreen and receive push notifications. No clue if they’re GCM though ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2018-06-12 15:47 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Giraffestock · 2018-06-12 15:59 I’m not sure if only chrome supports it, but yeah I think you need to use chrome to save to homescreen. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2018-06-12 19:39 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- justjanne · 2018-06-13 18:33 GCM/FCM is planned, I (Quasseldroid dev) am already working on it. The plan is to have full working GCM/FCM support with Quassel 0.14 done (0.13 is expected to be released within of the next weeks). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- izerth · 2018-06-14 19:53 Awesome, thanks for your work:)
