Users automatically join and then disconnect from a channel in an effort to "spam" links to weird YouTube pages. Any way to stop? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LOLGoodMeme · 2018-05-24 22:59 A user with the name "Max" joined my darkmyst channel and then disconnected. No chat, no nothing. I am fairly sure he logged in only to log back out and thus spam the channel with his disconnect message. His disconnect message had a youtube link in it. Wanting to make sure this was nothing inappropriate being linked to the channel, I clicked it. The channel was "Fadak TV" on YouTube, some Islamic channel apparently. Is there any way to stop this sort of spam before it begins? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- A-UNDERSCORE-D · 2018-05-24 23:03 Ban the user? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 0o0oo000oo0 · 2018-05-24 23:31 Low quality post. Not informative. Do not be a fag. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- yunocchi · 2018-05-24 23:32 I believe I am aware of this particular spam campaign. Your best bet is following the advice of /u/A-UNDERSCORE-D and banning the particular host in question. You can ask the operators of the network in question whether or not they support filtering content - It may be possible to filter the specific spam (especially if the host runs InspIRCd). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- noeatnosleep · 2018-05-24 23:37 Final warning. We don't insult other users, and we don't use slurs. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 0o0oo000oo0 · 2018-05-24 23:41 You can't have a final warning without a first one ---------------------------------------------------------------------- noeatnosleep · 2018-05-24 23:46 You damn sure can. Your first is your final. I'd love for you to stay around, and I'd love for you to continue to roast people, if it's obviously good hearted and slur-free, but I'd prefer for you to provide constructive criticism instead. Either way, behave or begone. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 0o0oo000oo0 · 2018-05-24 23:51 > You damn sure can. Allowed a burst of quite a few for when people connect, but limit someone keeping a sustained rate up. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- VersedNJ · 2018-07-31 01:13 You can also make the room invite only, I know on the efnet #android and ircnet #worldchat we do that often when the trollers come out to play, and the regulars who unfortunately get caught and can't get into the room, are savvy enough to PM one of the regulars to invite them in.
