How can I use use ZNC with irssi? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BubbleBassOrder · 2018-05-21 04:14 I managed to set it up(apparently) by running znc --makeconf but when I try to connect to a network it uses my own IP instead of the bouncer's , what am I doing wrong? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- pedz · 2018-05-21 07:24 Just to be sure, you're connecting to the bouncer's address with irssi, right? I use ZNC with multiple clients so that I can have only one "presence" on the networks I'm connected to and see the same thing through multiple devices but the principle remains the same. First, use the bouncer's address to connect to it. Once you are authenticated to the bouncer, you can use */msg *status addserver network_address* to add the network's server to ZNC's list. It's possible to have multiple servers. It will take a few seconds for ZNC to try to connect. If it doesn't, */msg *status connect* to start the process. You can see all of ZNC's options using */msg *status help*. EDIT: Just tried it with irssi: 1. Launch irssi 2. /connect ZNC_server_address port_optionnal 3. It will ask you for a password. /quote PASS username:password This should connect you to the bouncer. Once this is done: 4. /msg *status addserver irc.somenetwork.org 6667 5. /msg *status connect That should be it! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- acydlord · 2018-05-21 12:41 To add to this as well, if the bouncer is installed on your network it will still show your IP. I use weechat myself with a box bouncer but it is as simple as the steps in the comment I’m replying to. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BubbleBassOrder · 2018-10-15 05:07 Probably a little bit late but I'm having a problem with this, irssi keeps showing this message: 01:14 \[1273\] -!- Irssi: Looking up [127.0.0.1](https://127.0.0.1) 01:14 \[1273\] -!- Irssi: Connecting to [127.0.0.1](https://127.0.0.1) \[[127.0.0.1](https://127.0.0.1)\] port 4444 01:14 \[1273\] -!- Irssi: Connection to [127.0.0.1](https://127.0.0.1) established 01:14 \[1273\] -!- Invalid Password 01:14 \[1273\] -!- Irssi: Connection lost to [127.0.0.1](https://127.0.0.1) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- pedz · 2018-10-15 09:06 I'm not sure I'm following. Is znc installed on your own computer or on a remote server? If you're connecting to 127.0.0.1, it will use the IP of that computer to connect to IRC. Unless you have vhosts. Regardless, if it's telling you invalid password, I'm guessing irssi pauses and requires you to enter a password. Like this. 04:56 !irc.znc.in *** You need to send your password. Try /quote PASS : This should be the username and password you've entered during the setup. So you send the password using that command, without the brackets. If it's still telling you the password is invalid, you can try connecting to that port using your browser to see if it will be accepted on znc's web server. I.e.: http://127.0.0.1:4444 If it's not working in both cases, check your znc config to make sure your credentials are correct, or do the setup again to set new ones.
