get "no route to host" on LAN for inspircd IRC reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kryptoghost · 2018-04-12 00:03 Tried setting up a IRC server today, Ive gotten as far as being able to connect to IRC with "localhost" on the server. However my other machine on the network is getting "no route to host" when i tried to connect via IP address. "/connect XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX" This shouldnt be a router issue because their on the same LAN, anyone have an idea of what could cause this? Thank you! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- A-UNDERSCORE-D · 2018-04-12 00:05 Is inspIRCd configured to listen on 127.0.0.1 or localhost or ::1? you cannot connect externally if so. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kryptoghost · 2018-04-12 00:12 That is configured with the DNS tag right? I have it set to my routers IP address at the moment. Still nothing. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- A-UNDERSCORE-D · 2018-04-12 00:26 The bind address should be set to the IP of the machine it is on, not your router ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kryptoghost · 2018-04-12 00:34 Just to make sure i understand. "> not port="6667"> ---------------------------------------------------------------------- A-UNDERSCORE-D · 2018-04-12 00:39 The [dns tag](https://wiki.inspircd.org/Configuration#.3Cbind.3E) is used to configure where the server will go for dns queries. The [bind tag](https://wiki.inspircd.org/Configuration#.3Cbind.3E) sets what IP the server binds to (listens on) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kryptoghost · 2018-04-12 02:30 Thats what i thought too. Ive since put 8.8.8.8 as my dns address on the server application. the bind tag says that im suppose to list the ipaddress i want the server to lookout for or leave it blank so it will listen for calls on 6667 to any ip address. (putting the server ip address there wouldnt even let me localhost from the server) doing a nmap on my ip its not showing 6667 at all. for some reason my server isnt listening on port 6667 despite the service running and those two tags supposibly correclty configured. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- A-UNDERSCORE-D · 2018-04-12 03:07 Does the server have a net connection? can you connect out? is there a firewall blocking the connection? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kryptoghost · 2018-04-12 04:28 The firewall is a basic non commercial router. I can't imagine it is getting involved. The server does have a net connection. I ran some more tests and it's 6667 port is actually filtered. Or at least that's what nmap is saying. I don't know... I'm think at this point it's a software issue. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- A-UNDERSCORE-D · 2018-04-12 04:29 Yeah, possibly a software firewall. I'm assuming linux, so check if iptables are installed and whether or not its configured to block incoming by default. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kryptoghost · 2018-04-12 04:32 Ahh you know what this is a freedom box. I bet you're right. I'm looking now and iptables has explicit rules allowing all the other services on the device. Thanks man, I don't have experience with iptables but I have a buddy that does. I'll have him look the configuration over. Thank you so much! I'll let you know if it worked ---------------------------------------------------------------------- A-UNDERSCORE-D · 2018-04-12 04:33 Perhaps try ufw? its a nice frontend for iptables ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kryptoghost · 2018-04-12 04:41 Wow that looks amazing, makes iptables less frightening. Thank you
