Is there an Android IRC client that supports inline media/embeds? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SkyBlueDaPon3 · 2018-04-10 01:20 On desktop, I use FooIRC, which is a UWP-based IRC client that has all the useful features I need, and one of the things I like the most is its inline media/embeds feature, which embeds media like YouTube videos, images, and GIFs. Coming from Discord (which I am not allowed to use b/c parents), I've become pretty used to embeds, and was happy to see it in FooIRC. But as for mobile clients, I've been going through multiple clients like RevolutionIRC, Yaaic, HololIRC, Atomic, Hermes, and Rice IRC, but with no luck. Does anyone know an Android IRC client that supports inline media? Thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2018-04-10 01:37 [removed] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- namenamee · 2018-04-10 01:44 IRCCloud? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SkyBlueDaPon3 · 2018-04-10 01:50 If i remember correctly, IRCCloud can't connect to a regular IRC server. You can only connect to their servers. EDIT: ~~i meant personal IRC server (e.g. one you setup yourself with UnrealIRCd for example)~~ EDIT2: okay I was wrong about the first edits. I've connected to my own server. But it asks you to upgrade or else you're stuck with only 7 days. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2018-04-10 01:52 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- namenamee · 2018-04-10 02:31 > Limited accounts are disconnected after 2 hours unless you have the web site or one of the mobile apps open. Are you using it on your phone or not? 2 hours active after you close the client is good, most clients quit the connection when you close. I actually thought they gave 20-30 mins, 2 hours is really good. There are alternatives you could try, I personally never tried them but: IRCAnywhere, TapChat, The Lounge... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AltReality · 2018-04-10 04:09 IRC is not designed for inline media..any of them that do are not following the protocol properly. Discord is the only thing that does that, but you said you can't use it...although I don't see how your parents will allow IRC if they won't allow Discord. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- prawnsalad · 2018-04-10 09:58 Inline media has nothing to do with the protocol. It's purely the client display the media from URLs in a message. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SkyBlueDaPon3 · 2018-04-10 16:26 shh... they don't know ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Giraffestock · 2018-04-10 16:31 If you're comfortable with setting up something on a server or keeping your desktop running, you could try using The Lounge and pinning to desktop and it will act much like a native app. https://github.com/thelounge/lounge ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SkyBlueDaPon3 · 2018-04-10 16:36 I'm already completely fine with the IRC server i've hosted on my server. I've also committed and bought FooIRC already, so switching to another IRC client would mean missing out of features I have on FooIRC. And based on what I've read so far, TheLounge doesn't have an Android client. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Giraffestock · 2018-04-10 16:36 If Foo works, use it. what I was saying is you can pin Lounge to homescreen and it acts like a native app. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SkyBlueDaPon3 · 2018-04-10 16:41 https://i.imgur.com/pjxsWvG.png https://i.imgur.com/kfpFPi0.png ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2018-04-10 16:53 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- namenamee · 2018-04-10 17:01 Yes I know, I still don't understand what your point is, do you want a free, permanent connection? Get a ZNC http://wiki.znc.in/Providers or install one of the other I listed, locally.
