Fast irc bot reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Sylogz · 2018-02-19 22:36 I'm looking for a bot that won't lag. On avg during busy peaks I need to process 6 msgs per second. Currently using https://github.com/cinchrb/cinch and it lags after 15 msgs, even a simple countdown and post every second makes it lag. Prefer Ruby but I guess other languages work too as long as I can connect to a sql database and the bot allow regexp for matching messages. (Solved this by changing option messages_per_second) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- desgen · 2018-02-19 22:49 You'd essentially want one with most, if not all plugins/modules disabled as that will likely contribute to having to parse so much, but gonzobot seems to do well on all of snoonet, so I am wondering if your issue is actually your network rather than it being a bots inability to keep up with the constant messages. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Sylogz · 2018-02-20 09:25 doubt its the network, if you mean the irc network there are other bots on it that spit out messages at that speed. if you mean my network as in speeds i have im sitting on a 1 gigabit up/down connection and the machine that run the bot is way overpowered (i5 2500k,16gb ram, ssd) and it runs that+unifi controller. ill try to run a bot with most plugins/modules disabled and see how it performs. i tried earlier with the most basic things and it was lagging but im not sure i checked for plugins/modules. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- prawnsalad · 2018-02-20 10:43 The first step is to find out why it's lagging. You mention a database is involved, so try putting some timers before/after it handles messages, around database calls and anything else it does. Leave it for a while, and see what's taking up most the time. Most languages have some sort of profiler that does all this for you but I'm not sure about ruby. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- desgen · 2018-02-20 17:04 I was mainly referring to your IRC network including whatever IRC backend as well is the configuration of rather than than the actual networks hardware/connection. Eggdrop is pretty barebones until you actually add plugins to it from their plugin database. Does any bot other than what you use have any issues? Have you tried the bot you currently use without any of your modifications to it preform well? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- flotwig · 2018-02-20 19:31 I'm pretty sure cinch has a default message throttling option, if you change it from the default to something like 999999messages/s you'll see your issues disappear. I had the same problem with cinch and found out it was just a configuration issue. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Sylogz · 2018-02-21 22:28 i missed that one when i went over the options. I changed messages_per_second and now its super fast. thanks for the help. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Sylogz · 2018-02-21 22:29 i did that and could see that internally everything was super fast it was just posting to irc that was slow. i had missed messages_per_second option...
