Cannot connect to freenode when using Private Internet Access, even using SASL. reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TarmacFFS · 2018-02-06 03:20 I'm trying to connect to freenode following the instructions [here](https://freenode.net/kb/answer/hexchat) for HexChat and having no luck. I get the following: Lua version 1.3/5.1 loaded. Any ideas? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- yunocchi · 2018-02-06 03:23 The authencation message states it failed, did you change your password today? EDIT: Read your message again. You likely have things configured wrong. Open up your connection editor for freenode and make sure you have your username set to your nickserv account, your authentication method set to sasl ( user + password ) and the password set to... well, that’s explanatory. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mquin · 2018-02-06 09:29 "TarmacFFS" doesn't appear to be a registered nickname on freenode. You should be able to use https://webchat.freenode.net/ to register first (instructions here: http://freenode.net/kb/answer/registration ). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TarmacFFS · 2018-02-06 11:18 I was using my actual screenname that is registered. Changed here for privacy purposes. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- acydlord · 2018-02-06 18:53 Try using the certificate method to log in, listed [here](https://freenode.net/kb/answer/certfp). I had issues from time to time when using PIA, resolved by using my cert to login or connecting directly to a freenode server instead of using the chat.freenode round-robin address. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mquin · 2018-02-07 09:59 If you're still having trouble, support@freenode.net should be able to help
