Is there a way to open irc:// links in the same irc client?

I'm using mIRC on windows 7 at the moment but I'm willing to change
client.

Currently if I click on a irc:// link it opens a new instance of mIRC
(even if there is one already running), is there a script or an option
(or even another IRC client) to prevent this?

Another question, after I click on a irc:// link, mIRC asks if I want
to change server or open a new connection,is there a way to tell mIRC
that if I'm already connected to that server to just join the new
channel or to open a new connection if it's a new server?

Try asking on the mIRC forums, https://forums.mirc.com/ubbthreads.php

Or try asking on various mIRC channels, response times vary a lot so
you might be a few minutes to a few hours.
